i've seen that more than a few folks have caught flatheads using a whole dead fish. when fishing with a demised piece of bait, is it just fished off the bottom like usual or is it jigged or worked in any way to bring a strike?

I just let it sit on bottom or use a float (bobber) when suspending it. HTH

I just let the dead ones sit on the bottom like the live ones. I have caught alot of nice flatheads this year on dead bait.

Using live bait and cutting the tail off works well.,

I left it sit on bottom too, I usually run the hook through the eyes or mouth so it points straigh upriver in the current, this will also help with line twist because the bait won't spin as much. I think this is the first year I have caught more flats on dead bait than live bait. My biggest flathead of the summer came in 50 feet of water, using large shad as cutbait (cut behind the gills and cut the tail off and use the body and head on one hook) fishing for blues, so who knows what they will hit!
