Now that I think about it it was Steve Adams because he had a fungo bat and he was trying to figure out how to mount a penn reel on it. I guess he was going to use the softball for a float.

in the past at tunica, we have all just "survived" on our own food .... no group meal or such..... we have grilled a few burgers and sausages as a group but it really wasn't planned ......... this has been pretty much a fishing trip , so just get u some grub together and come on ........
hopefully we'll get hold of some fresh skips by then ........ if not , charles phillips will supply everyone with livers and gizzards .his bait of choice!!
plenty of tent space available , plus places to park a camper ..... it is right on the river bank , so if u are a light sleeper , get ready to stay awake all nite watching/listening to the towboats ......... they come within a couple hundred yds of the campground:ooooh:

ArkansasCat
09-27-2006, 03:43 AM
Yeah Coach those towboats come within a few hundred yards "Most of the Time". About 5 years ago a downstream barge never made the turn and run up on the bank. It tore up the asphalt road that goes along the bank there in the park. So it might be a good thing to be a light sleeper there!

Some of yawl may remember this and can add more to it. I was there about a week after it happened and saw where the barge had come up the bank and went across the road plowing up the ground. One of the locals told us what had happened. He thought the Capt. fell asleep at the wheel.

Just post if you plan to attend. No charge for the facilities. We furnish our on food and beverages, however sometimes we combine for a group meal. We fish during the day and do a little socializing (read story telling)around the fire at night. Basically a fishing/camping trip.

Brad, My dad and I were bank fishing just north of the boat ramp the night that tow ran a ground. He was coming down river too fast and just before hitting I heard the sound of the engines change as if he was trying to slow down or turn but it was too late. I will never forget my dad's words (Boy I don't think hes gonna make it.) Five minutes later the $@%& had hit the fantail.

10-02-2006, 02:00 AM
Tony if your driving 55 hy you need to exit on 6hy at Batesville and go west to Clarksdale.Just before you get to Clarksdale you will come to the 4lane 49hy turn right(north)to go to Tunica and on the north side of Tunica you will see a sign that says Tunica lake turn left there and look for a sign that says Mhoon landing turn right and it will take you to where were we're gona be.

How bout that Coach?? :smile2:

coach
10-02-2006, 07:07 PM
sounds good to me bk ...... just remember tony , 49 and 61 north outa clarksdale are the same hiway and 49 is gonna turn left headed for helena , arkieland ,,,,,,,, keep on going north on 61 to tunica........ bk i was thinking there was a new hiway built across to tunica way north of batesville ... for the casino traffic ........... i may be dreaming again !!!!!!!!!!!:tounge_out:

Charlesp54
10-02-2006, 07:19 PM
Coach there is a section of I-69 that is scheduled to open tomorrow it runs from I-55 just north of Hernando Ms. to Hwy 61 just north of the casinos. However if he plans to come up that far he should take I-55 to the Hernando exit then take Hwy 304 west to Hwy 61. Then south on Hwy 61 to Mhoon Landing parkway. Stay on it and it will dead end at the campsites.

Hey Coach my 25 Johnson OB needs a new water pump impeller and whe don't have any outboard dealers around here so just for the heck of it I checked with the NAPA auto parts store and and I almost fell out cause they had the pump for my 25 hp in stock. It was even in a NAPA package and I'm thinking that might be a good place to look for OB parts.

Hope you guys tear them up. Everything ought to be about right this weekend if the rise coming down the river doesn't mess it up or something. My wife has been real sick all month, she's been in the doctor's office or the ER room 2 days week before last,4 days last week and before the week is out it will be 4 days this week. They had to give her a pint of blood last week and they're giving her almost 600 ml of haemagloben(I'm guessing at the spelling) this week and it's gona take two full days to do that.I was gona call this trip off but she said go anyway and won't take no for an answer so I'm going and I'll be there Thur. afternoon.
I got a new impeller in my OB and it's ready to go.

Tony the river ain't so bad if you watch what you and it are doing.I launched my boat at dusk and chased Coach all night dusk till dawn my first time on the big river. He lead me into places that there ain't no way I would gone if he hadn't gone frist and you can bet I was watching what I was doing, what he was doing and most important what the river was doing.

Jesse I sure ain't camp cook,I might burn out all the taste buds in camp!!!!:ah:

Brian last fall I didn't have a cord that was long enough so I borrowed one from Mac and it had a short so slept cold so I'll have plenty of cords with me this time.

Hey Tony, There is an oxbow lake only 3 miles from the Mhoon landing park. It's a 13 mile stretch of what used to be the Mississippi River. It's called " Tunica Cut-off ". If ya go over there put in at the 3rd ramp. It's called Kingston's. They are cheaper on the launch fee and nice folks. When you get on the levee pass up the first turn off then go down about 1/4 mile. You will see the turn off and sighns. The crappie fishin is what that lake is known for but we have caught lots of catfish there too.

See if I can describe this park for those that haven't been there.
There is about 75 foot of rock between the river and the guardrail. A strip of asphalt about 2 to 3 lanes wide that runs the front of the park. A gate at the end of that road so you can get into the grassy area of the park. There's a cable that runs between the asphalt and grass so you can't pull into it except at the end. There are walkways to every table site. These are concrete pads, like single and double carports with metal framed covers. Singles have 1 table and doubles have 2 or 3. Singles have a small grill and doubles have a large grill set in the concrete about waist high, they are set that the roof covers about half of it. There is 1 duplex outlet at each pad. Water is at every site. The gound is level for tents. Restrooms are on a mount so to stay out of high water during floods. Stainless steel seats, so bring your newspaper. Plenty of drift wood over the rail so bring a chainsaw if wanting some larger logs for campfire. No showers or playground. Boatramp is about a 1/8th mile from sites.

canebreaker
10-22-2006, 11:31 AM
Some suggestions for Tunica.
Bring extension cords for running lights from other sites. A 100 foot cord isn't enough between some. Save the outlet at the site for heaters and cooking.
If using a tent, face it toward the leavy and place a large tarp on the backside to block wind.
The cover has a pitch on the sides, bring some tarps to make walls. 8 or 9 foot wide for the front and back, maybe some 12 footers for the sides. Something to tie it to the frame and some stakes.

tony.... there are plenty of big sandbars to float............ there's one right across from the ramp.............. i have no idea about rules in the lakes ...... some of the dikes have big dead water areas behind them that would be sorta like fishing in a lake i reckon............. i think most folks will be r/r fishing ......

Tony I am goin up friday. gonna try to get there mid morn or before lunch at the the latest. I am bringin my son, we are bringin a tent. i will prolly freeze my butt off, but he likes cold weather. You can jug fish between the dikes just fine. I like to throw mine out just above a dike and let them float around the dike and get caught in the whirlpools. you can jug in the current too usely the barges are far enough apart you have time to pull your jugs up(usely) and you can see your jugs alot better if you spray paint them black! it is very hard to see white or orange jugs in the muddy colored water. I am bringin my jugs, most of the time i just throw mine out and kill my motor and kick back and float down river with them. I am sure hoping the weather is good and i been wantin to go to the Tunica River Park Museum gonna try to squeeze in some time for that.

Talkin about it makes me want to head up there today!!

HeavyDuty, The Tunica River Park museum is well worth taking the time to visit. Plan on spending several hours there. My wife and I along with our 3 kids (ages 5-10) went weekend before last and enjoyed it very much. The exhibits, films, and aquariums make it interesting for all ages. They do close at 5:00pm so make sure you get there in plenty of time. We were there 3 hours and didn't get to walk the trails. You won't be disappointed.

Coach you don't have to worry about this riff raff:tounge_out: beating you there cause the doctor is gona have to give my wife two more pints of blood on Thur.and then take bone marrow samples on Fri.and that means I won't be there tomorrow but if every thing goes ok with her I plan to show up before dark Fri.

Scott one of my grandsons was gona back out on going to the Ark.gathering just to go to a friends B day party but got to thinkin" that going with his old grandpa might be more fun so he went with us and had a blast at the gathering.

Joe it looks we're gona have good weather for the weekend.

Tony I'm not going out on the river so I'm not bringing my boat so Kimber and Paul may ask you for a boat ride.

Well a little update!

BIG THANKS TO MY WIFE FOR MAKING ME STAY IN A HOTEL!!! LOL

The weather has been terrible!! Rained most of the morning and later in the evening! That's not the bad part, THE WIND IS AROUND 30 MPH!!!! We did do some fishing though! LNGBO, fishing with Coach, caught a 19 1/2 and a 32 lb cat!! Most everyone else has been a few here and there, but LNGBO stole the show! I'm looking like Detroit, NOTHING!! LOL We're having a good time and enjoying each others fellowship!

The wind is supposed to ease up tomorrow and we hope we can get some good fishing in then!!! Had a tree fall and destroy a pavilion next to one that some forum members were set up under! THANK GOD NO ONE WAS UNDER IT WHEN IT HAPPENED!! We're hoping Saturday we can all redeem ourselves!!:embarassed: :confused2:
