What news cahnnel did you see it on and did they show a pic? Might be able to see it on the website.
Hi guys. I'm new here and this is my first post. I'm the guy that caught the potential Pa. state record. I gave an interview to the Post gazette and it should be in tomorrows paper. I decided to do some research after I caught the fish and found this excellence website. The stats on the fish are 47lbs, 43" length, 31-1/2" girth. I didn't even know it was a possible state record and was on the way to returning it to the river when a friend called and told me about the current record. I submitted the paperwork to Harrisburg yesterday. I guess now it's a waiting game with the state. I still can't believe the amount of publicity this is generating. I'll post some pictures once i figure out how.

Thats a good lookin fish, im glad you kept him alive. Hope he does well in the aquarium. He should be pretty popular in there. You can go visit him anytime you want now. That will be cool. Did cabelas offer you money for him, or did you just donate it to them? It takes a good angler to catch a 47lb flat on 12lb test, especially when you throw the current from the river in the equation. Congrats again.

Dear Brother Vic;
I've read all the posts to date, looked at your link to the newspaper article, looked at the photos, read the stories.
YOU Sir are a CREDIT to Catfishermen, and women, all across this great country of ours!:smile2:
That the fish is still living, and I know the folks at Cabela's will take very good care of him/her, is a wonderful piece of news and speaks highly of your ethics, morals, and personality!:smile2:
I'm sure the State will verify it as a Record Book Catch and then you, and your name and accomplishment, will become a part of Recorded History that will be here long after all of us are gone and forgotten!!:smile2:
Perhaps someday I will have the honor of meeting you in person! For now, I hope your enjoy the limelight and the laurels to their fullest because you have done something that many have spent years of time, money, sweat, and yes, even Blood, trying to do and have not succeeded! Most of us never will, but we keep trying anyway!
My Most Sincere Congrats and "Welcome Aboard; GLAD to have Ya with us as your certainly an inspiration to all of us in the BOC!" :smile2: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!:smile2:
Fraternally, Sincerely, and Cordially,
Coyote1

Jim,
thanks for the pictures. it looks like that fish will have a nice retirement in that tank. i'm sure the people at cabela's will take very good care of him/her. Most of all, that fish will never have to worry about anyone eating it. I will go see the fish as soon as i get motivated to make the 2 hour ride from Philly.
Vic,
you just made my quest for flatasaurus MUCH, MUCH, harder!!! You deserve it!!!

congrats Vic,,, where in pa did you catch this fish???
Hey guys, thanks again for all the compliments. If you didn't know already, I gave the fish to Cabelas in Hamburg Pa. I found out yesterday that the fish died. I really regret that I didn't return it to the river. I thought I was doing a good thing but it turned out to be the wrong decision. So, I'm making a promise to the Brotherhood that any big cats I catch will be promptly returned to where they came.
Deerhunter01: Thanks for the avatar it really great.

Vic,
I too just learned yesterday that a 12 inch 1.5 lb flathead could not, should not, and would not, live in my 55 gallon tank. They are just beast that need to be in the special habitat/environment, kinda like how great white sharks are seldom able to put up with captivity. We all know you didn't mean any harm and that you just wanted to share the fish with all of us. Lesson learned, never try to keep flatasuarus in a tank.
its great to see that there are fellow anglers out there that want preserve the opportunity for other to get a shot at recatching monster fish-by return these monsters back

I heard about this thread at the National, and finally ran across it today. First I would like to say congratulations Vic on catching a pending state record fish, and sharing your exploits with the BOC. Records are made to be broken, which is why many of us own scales to record weight. You accomplished what so many of your in state brethren have been chasing after, so kudos to you. As far as the fish dying, well whose to say how many fish die from simply fishing, even if it's CPR? There is no real way to determine the fate of any of the fish we catch, unless we put them in hot grease, or grill them.:cool2: Do what you got to do in the future Vic, and...
Welcome to the BOC!!!

That is a shame the fish died hopefully over the years that fish was able to spread its genes around to some other flatheads that will reach its size later on.

Great to here that the record is finally broke. It is possible!!! LOL Congratulations on your catch and don't feel bad about the fish dieing, alot of us would have done the same thing. I think that it would be neat to see a big fish like that in an aquairium. You would have thought that would have been like a retirement home for him! LOL He could have likley died in the river also. Hey there are alot of people that wouldn't have thought twice about smacking between the eyes and taking him home to the freezer or what not, legally it is a legal catch and the person who catches a legal fish has the legal choice and right to keep it, eat it, or throw it back. Congrats on the catch and I envy you! LOL
Hey Scott, looks like the bar just went up on that fish we dream of!! LOL
:smile2: I have never even come close, but dream of it everytime I cast out a pole! Thanks for sharing, Welcome to the brotherhood.
