What's up Blue. Long tome no see. I have been travelling in Mexico for some saltwater fishing. The one I was asking is the one that Irvine throws from 6 A.M. to 4 A.M. the next day.
By the way, I found a great Cat fish spot in Mexico. There are some large Flatties that I have seen.

Goodguy we plan on having the derby from 6am to about 1am. We want to have a derby as well with guys putting in some chips and winner takes all. I say at least 20 dollars each. Or if you guys prefer that we break in down into percentages for 1st thru 3rd place that is ok with me. We have to get a consensus on that. With this we plan on having a mid day cookout as well with goodies of food for a few hours. Like from 1-3pm or maybe 4pm. Someone will have to volunteer to get that going. I will partake in that if someone helps me, but by 430pm at least, I want to be back in the water after the cats. We are going to have a list put up of food that people are willing to bring so we can put it together.
Now Irvine has a new head guy in charge. I was told a price per person to have a section of the park area for ourselves. So I will get that info next week by phone when I am down south and will post it here as soon as I can get on a computer. We really need to get the correct number of who is going to participate soon. We need this by at least the first week in September so all things can get put together. Thats 2 weeks from now. That should be enough time. This is planned for the 17th of September.

Hey guys I am back. The trip went well. Did not do any fishing, but will next time. Visited moms and other family. Yeah Riverbud we can do that with the cooking. We should get more people by then. I hear the bites picking up at Irvine. So thats a plus. we still need to get a hold of what other people are going to bring. If there is not going to be much people than there is no need of sectioning off a part of the park there for us. It will just be a small area for us. Date is still for the 17th. If they are not biting by that time then they will not bite aqt all. But all reports is showing improvements so I feel that we will have a productive day. At least better then the earlier date on Aug 13th for sure. Plus a chance at getting the big one. Looking forward to it guys.

Hey guys,
I haven't logged on for a couple of weeks and I find out that I have to re-register. That's cool, though. Anyways.
You can count me in on da 'Vine trip on the 17th of September. You can count on me for some great home-made Thai-style Fried Rice. It'll probably be enough for about 20-30 people. Always make more than enough, just in case someone wants seconds. Let me know if that is cool with the rest of you that I bring that. Just let me know where to meet at the lake and what to bring.

Your right Cliffey, I do remember something about reserving some camping sites. I would not mind reserving camp site. Cost about 6dollars. six tents per campsite.
Jaime
bluehunter
09-02-2005, 09:07 AM
If there is still interest in the camping than that should be reserved soon. Thats can be somthing that the person can reserve or we as a group could reserve. It just depends on the interest and how many plan to camp out there at the time. We need to know soon because it is a few weeks away.

I will bring one or two guys also. I live like 15 min from the lake. I will be lucky if I can catch anything at all, I will more than likely just get crappie. I cannot catch a catfish if my life depends on it lately.
bluehunter
09-05-2005, 03:24 PM
Muskeyman you also seem to make up for it in size other than numbers so I know you be ok. LOL. I have not been able to get out lately. Been real tight financially, especially after spending 700 bones on flight trips for my son and I. But will get back in the groove soon, staring with the gathering.

Brian, you know this lake pretty well. Does it Irvine always get this low this time of year, and the water felt like bathwater.
bluehunter
09-05-2005, 08:40 PM
Recently in the last few years the lake has been lower than it is now. Its been real low as a matter of fact until this year with all the rain we had. It depends on what the water district does with the water as the lake sometimes sale the water. Also at times they just turn off the water pumps and do not let the water in. But for the last few years, yep the water seems to go down for now, just in time for the trout opener as people than can acess the shore lines along the west shore.

I think I will head out there next weekend and pull a double, Newport Bay during the day ( nice eye candy  ) and then hit Irvine that night. Brian, I hear irvine will end nightfishing around mid october, we need to ask the manager to hold off and extend it a bit longer. Let him know how much PR he can get out of the big boys that bite towards then. That new manager they got is way cool, he is a people person and is game for suggestions. You and I need to talk to him. He is cool peeps. Long over due

riverbud55
09-08-2005, 09:38 PM
brandt what you need for good dove hunting is some good hot weather 110 and your set for the white wings , white wings are bigger and the best eating and what I go for. The weather out in blythe had not been that hot( only 100 lol) before I got there with a lot of wind and thunder storms and it kicked most of the white wing out. There were some that got ther limits on morning dove but I didn't go were thay were, oh well theres next year, and the second season in nov. for some morning dove hunting, got my limit most days last year on the second season. If your up for some dove hunting let me know and your more than welcome to head out there with me in nov or dec got a 870 you use if ya need some thing for a gun and the cats still mite be bitting also. but your right them cats sure made up for the dove hunting, I be seening ya at the gatherin and have good one.

Good going on your trip Riverbud.
Muskeyman, Yeah if I see the guy I will post a word to him. The Vine has been ending the seaon prematurely for years lately when the cats go off. Back in the days I would rack them up through November there but the trout competition craze has the local lakes in competition so they want to open around the same time almost. Notice how Sarl now does there in October too. I remember when all of those lakes had the opener in November which gave us all of OCT for the cat hunt at irvine which was great.

Guys I talked with Mike the new guys who runs things at irvine to get an area for us the bbq. Lately the Vine has been having extra curricular activites there but he told he he would have an area for us to cook at. I told him we should have at least 20 people. Thats all we need it for anyway because we will be on the water most of the time. Cooking from noon to about 3 is enough time for us to eat, drink, shoot the S. You know the good stuff. I will be at Irvine Friday night and will stay over. May do a little fishing too if I can. Anyone there at the time holla at me, or I see you in the morn.

Hey Guys,
In regards to the trophies that "Blue" is coming with. How much are we going to need to pich in for them? I'm trying to find out so I can make sure I bring enough cash.
Chuy
bluehunter
09-12-2005, 08:14 AM
In regards to the trophies, we will have to hold off on that one as the place I went to came up with a higher fee than I wanted to spend. Sorry about that one. I should have checked another place. I did not want to have us dish\ out a lot of money for this as we are already having the derby with a deposit, plus entry fees into the lake, and also boat rentals and goodies to bring for bbqing, drinking, etc. Well make good of it and just have a gathering and our own derby. My bad on that one, should have posted the deal on the trophies earlier.
bluehunter
09-12-2005, 08:34 AM
The deby winning will be from 1st thru third that way we will have 3 winners in the fish off. Remember the 20 dollar deposit. With 20 members it would be out of 400 dollars like this.
1st place - 50%
2nd place - 35%
3rd place - 15%
Or we could calculate it based on how many show up.
The deposits would be collected in the Morning like around 530am - 6am and will be kept in the tackle shop. I will be at the bench area.

If anyone plans on bringing more people post here so we can add them. I plan on having a final list by Wednesday at least as I was suppose to give the numbers to Mike at the Lake. So far I gave 18 but we can stand for more. Also if anyone plans to camp out make sure you reserve with the lake.
Everything will sart at 6am and meals at mid day with final weigh in for the money at 1am. This will give us plenty of time out there and time to search and find the fish. The late night bite has been good, but you have to be alert. Do not drink too much. LOL, if you do, stay at the lake until morn afther weigh in to go home.

I will be looking myself Chuy. they move from time to time. One tip I can say is that to look deep at night. Make sure that you bring extra rope to reach bottom. I will be concentrating from Rocky point to the dam and middle area and maybe the west shore area. I have my 1-4 spots that I always go to. Sometimes not in that exact order. I did like my spot last week so I may go back there, but I do want to give my 1 and 2 spot a try as well. Just make sure you are where you want to be by night time as that is when the party starts with the bite. Man decisions decisions.

yea i am with mike, i know how to use the diffrent rigs and bait, but i would not mind hooking up with some of you catfishing veterans to learn how to find the the places the cats like and how to get on the cats. Most the time i go i ask people where there biting and try to fish that area. So if one of you guys wouldnt mind letting me fish with you to learn the ways i would really appreciate it.

blue so that mean,s I can leave bbQ behind? Man that makes things easier ,I'll still bring my big propane stove and some cooking gear.
are we going to stay near each other , I was hoping to tag along with the dudes that know the lake in my boat, and for sure somewere near you. how many are going to be able fit to a toon, I think u said 6,not sure how many toons are in the plan, I may put in for a spot on one of the toons if it ends up with a open one, just to have a spot to bs with the gang and to be able to get up an walk around. but will still have my boat and will have a spot on the boat for who ever and if need be a 2nd just a little crowded with 3. may need to start to figger that part out soon, how many toons and how many per toon, kind lets us know how much $. what do the toons have on them, seats(and 4 how many) pole holders. Are we going to take any other breaks with all the dudes someone going to need to hit up the head, down at the river we have tp on the boat and beach the boat head for the trees but don't think that going to work at the vine. Could use my boat for the taxi But I just don,t want to b the driver all the time
what happens if its good fishing and start limit out early?, start putting the smaller one back?
oh well that's to much thinking for now

River,
Good questions...i thot about the same thing.
I dont think anyones going to care if they share info, but im sure itll be the same thing as a normal day at the vine.. "dont hump my spot" type of deal.
I personally will probably just rent the aluminum ones, those are $50. you can fit 2 or 3 comfortable, 4 cramped.
Ill probably have me, my bro and one other on the boat...most likely Chuy.
The toons, they sell out quik on the weekends..but you can reserve one. Ive seen 9 people on one, but it did look a lil crowded. Id say 6 is cool for 2 poles each and plenty of space. Thats only $25 a person. I have a feeling alot of people will partner up and go with the aluminum rentals. Toons go for $150 on the weekends. All boats have to be back in by 130-145am.
Ive been to the lake about 4 times in a boat now, so itll be like th eblind leading the blind if im counted on for spot locations.
As for the bathroom situation, hmmm..there are plenty of spots to beach and crap i guess if thats your bag of worms. Personally, ill make sure to unload any excess "goods" before i get on the lake...just a personal rule.
Camping people: Please get on the website www.irvinelake.net and call. Just make sure you dont need to reserve a spot or if you do, git-er-dun.

River, as far as the spots go, I'll be glad to show you some spots prior to going out from a map. There are some spots that do not start until night time and there are some better day time spots. I am basically going for the big ones so I will proboly stay deep. It will be slower during the day time doing that, but well see. I am taking a mid day break anyways helping with the food so I should not be too bored on the slow bite. The flats is a better go around for consistancy in the middle area, but you really need to be on top of them and around structure. A fish finder will help with that.
I will more than likely be on the 50 dollar rental. There is suppose to be a few peeps going out with me but I will tell some of them to get their own, do not want to be overcrowded on the boat. My son will be with me most likely since he brings me luck out there. The pontoons is cool if you have someone to split with. Keep in mind that most of the pontoons ropes are short and you will have to makes some longer to sit deep. There is four anchors on there so you will have to do a good anchoring job out there to stay on your hole. THey are good for about 6 people but no more than that. Good room to put extras on for your fishing trip.

Good post Brian, I am upto split the cost of a pontoon. I have some rope maby about 50ft, any one else have any extra rope?
Brian, do you think the manager can accomodate us as far providing extra ropes for the pontoon?
I will bring one bag of charcoal, does the lake takle shop sell charcoal?

Ok thats all cool blue and mike. just didn't know how it was all going to work out. i'll just hang with my boat and will have an open spot open for one for the first to yell for it. its a smaller !6' bass boat w/fishfinder, gps, trolling motor. So it sounds like were kinda on our own then with a helping hand from the vets I hope. the big ones sounds good to me.

Jaime,
The tackle shop sells most of the stuff youll need, BUT your going to pay a nice lil premium. Also, they have a cafe there too...anyone wanting something different can eat there as well.
I doubt they have a bunch of rope to give us, ill bring at least an extra 100 feet to tie on the 2 rental anchors, i too plan on hitting some deeper areas most of the day.
Brian,
When you anchor, is it better to have an anchor on each side of th eboat (not meaning front and back) as in left and right side. Also, in exchane for some mack...maybe u can point me to a couple "Daytime spots" on the map as well as some "deeper areas" more less lookin for spots you know are the deeper spots...besides just the dam. Either that or i whip out the big spotlight and go huntin for u when the sun sets :D
I can see it now, Brian and lil B duckin as the light passes "shhhh, duck i think thats Socal"

Mike,
That sounds good to me. I have one of those portable "bottomline" fish finders that I use for float tubing and we can clamp it on to the side of the boat to find the fish and the holes for the night bite. I'll make sure and bring it with me. Don't worry it has a nite light. I also have one of those "Fish n' Maps" of Irvine Lake so we can look at the structure. There are some honey holes that have worked for me in the past but don't know about this season.

Yes its best to anchor from both sides. It helps to keep the boat steady. Also let out a little extra rope as well and you just do not want it straight up and down.
Socal, as far as spots, I want be dunking. LOL. I will pretty much be in 1 0f 4 spots the whole time. I can point out some areas to you, its really better with a fish finder though when you hunt in the day time to find the structure and drop offs, dredges, etc. I was told by Catmando that he was not going to be there this weekend but if he is taking someone out for a business deal than he must have changed plans. LOL, yeah he did say no guiding during derbies. Its all good the more the marrier, more ends in the pot. He should enter as well. If hes there I will ask him. More competition.
Jaime you should bring extra good rope. Irvine has some but not much to go around. Also buy your goodies before you get to Irvine at the stores. I have not seen charcoal in their tackle shop.
River holla at me in the morn and I will show you some things since you have not fished there. You will not be alone in this.

To all you guys renting boats, be careful out there. First of all, have plenty of lighting in your boat besides the glow stick they give you. Secondly, do not hold onto the anchor rope as you let out line ( that is unless you bring your own rope ). The anchor lines are always full of rooster tails, kastmasters and other wonderful things that would do some awesome damage should they slide through your hands as you let out rope. Check everything over first.

Brian, thats cool man. You dont even have to point me to spots, maybe just tell me from experience where some deeper spots are. I think Chuys gonna roll with me, so hopefully his fishfinder will put us on some during the day hours.
Musk,
Good post. Your exactly right. Ive actually kept some hooks ive found, good ones! A treble hook to the left hand, being ripped into by an anchor would definately be a buzz kill
Sorry if someone answered this already but....considering alot of the maniacs that i seen cruising around with 1 or 2 glowsticks tops, do u guys leave a light on at night? Or go dark styles when waitin for runs.......does it matter if your fishin deep?

Hey Mike,
Don't worry about the glow sticks. If we need some, I just picked up a dozen yesterday at the store for $1 each. The only color I don't have is green. I've got yellow, orange, blue, purple, and pink. Got them at a good deal and couldn't pass them up.

Check this out Mike, the glow sticks are what they give you ; too bad they don't have actual running lights like they use to use, that was alot safer. But the reality is the glow sticks are not worth crap. Not to knock anyone or demean the lake or anything, nothing meant like that. But you cannot see anyone when the fog rolls in and it has come in in small clouds lately. Plus, most of the time, even when it is perfectly clear, you will see the person with the glowstick at the last possible minute. So ya dude, you can leave your lights on, I wear a headlight and sometimes have a small latern also. Actual running light - green / red are the best. There have been several close calls this year, near collisions at night. So ya, be on the look out dude.
