Man, it sounds like everyone had fun but Buddy and me. I went to the gunshow and saw a sweet Berreta 40 S&W. Unfortunately, I already have too many guns that I really don't use anymore. Did pick up some ammo for my Makarov though. It was a nice day but I'm getting to need a fishing fix.
Congratulations on your new boat Kevin. I already ordered your camo lounger for you. They had a hard time finding the camo fabric though. Lavender wasn't a common color.
Tony, congratulations to you on joining that team of refs. I got to meet a ref who works in the NFL. He had some funny stories but sometimes it sounds like more than a few people want to beat the living c..p out of you if they don't like your call. Have you ever penalized a coach for giving you too much grief?
Again, congratulations on the fine catches this weekend.

Dang you guys are catching some good fish.
Sorry to see your trailer troubles Buddy. I saw a whole bunch of trailer tires at the Teague launch parking lot this afternoon.
I bet somebody had your size.
We have been having a blast in Logan's piroque. Yesterday we went out and weren't in the water 20 minutes before we saw 2 deer. Logan was the only one fishing and caught 10 bass and as many bream. We ran arcoss a Gatorade bottle that was bobbing but left it; it ain't mine.
We learned that a trolling motor on a piroque defeats its purpose so it came off last night. The water in the flat is too shallow in some spots to have a trolling motor plus the place we launch requires a slide down a bank. The thing about sliding a piroque down a bank when you launch it is that you have to pull the piroque back up the bank when your done and that was a chore I care not to repeat. We went out in the stripped down piroque this morning for 2 hours and only caught a couple of bass and load of bream and one catfish, all on a bass lure. Now, before yall go badmouthing catfish for biting a bass lure, you need to know that Logan was sightfishing and snagged the catfish with the lure. The water in the Flat is clear enough right now to sightfish and it is a hoot. Logan actually tries to deny the bream his lure because he is targeting a bass he can see and the bream sometimes beat the bass to the lure. I know, I know. I can't do a thing with him.
We ran arcoss that Gatorade bottle again this morning and picked it up. I figured it was abandoned. It had a nice channel cat on it and a long braided line. I figure then that it was being run from the bank so it told Logan to put it back in the water. I pulled on the line to figure out where the thing was tied off to because we were kinda in the middle of nowhere and I didn't see a clearing on the bank. I finally pulled up a rod which was broken at the butt. I continued to pull on the line and pulled up a reel. A saltwater Garcia Mitchell 624 baitcaster in great shape; everything looks and works like new! It ought to make a good downrigger setup. The rod is a True Temper with a long wooden handle. It looks old but would be a cool wall-hanger

Sgt Rob sounds like a great day the rod would look cool on the wall and be a future reminder of the fun times when Logan was younger.
Too bad about the bass thing but my 10 year old is going throught the same thing. Hope it's just a phase he'll grow out of.

I came back with 12 nice size fish this morning. I released one around 8-10 from a noodle. I picked up 3 more stray noodles. Do yall think I'm wrong picking up feral noodles? I figure if we didn't pick up each other's lost noodles the riverbanks would be lined with them and noodlers would get a bad rap. I don't use them. I take them out whenever I go in case I run into the owner.
Tony, thanks for dropping the prop off at Rob's. I'll swing by and get it after

Some not-so-disturbing news:
The Decals are FINALLY in.
If you missed the boat and didn't order any, you can purchase a 2 1/4 X 16" decal but only for a few more days. I'm mailing them to Paul for him to sell in the BOC store.
We will have a little meeting this Friday evening to issue out the decals and have a mass juggin. I bet we can take over the whole river!
How does Friday @ 7:00 PM at the Teague pavillion sound to everyone?
We can B.S for 30 minutes or so then hit the river in full force with our new catfish1.com decals.

Ran the new prop today. With 30.7 mph once, but will run 28-29 easy when trimmed up right. We ran from Teague to about 6 miles south of the port, or about a mile north of bee hive lake entrance. I have not put the pin to it, but I think is some where around 30 miles round trip we made today and used around 3 gal or a little more. I think I am get around 10 miles to the gallon on the new Tohatsu. I sure do like it so far. We could tell right away that the prop made a big difference. It would set you back in your seat, and you did not have to wind it up over a mile to hit top speed. It would hit top speed in a short distance. I am happy. Now I don’t have to listen to Rob and Eric talk about how slow my boat is. In fact as soon as Rob gave me first MPH reading, I asked how fast his boat went. When He told me, I let out a big “yahoo! I can’t out run Rob”. For a little while any way.

I noticed you mentioned needing a relief valve. Take a look at www.agri-supply.com . They have all sorts of sprayer parts. I happened to be in VA a couple years ago, and went to one of their stores. I picked up a threaded plastic relief valve to go in a water tank and transfer pump system I had built. Seems the valve was about 15 bucks. Those folks are very good to deal with. I have ordered lots of stuff from them.

Question for yall:
I'm getting a hummingbird fishfinder for my B-day. I've seen where it tells you to mount the transducer well away from the motor but if I put it anywhere but at the rear of the boat I'd think the trailer would shear it off during loading/unloading. This is a small 14 foot jon boat I'm putting it on.
Yall got any opinions?
One other thing, what kind of battery do yall recommend to run the fishfinder, occasionally a q-beam, and eventually a 12 volt trolling motor.

Alsey iffen ya gots a trollin motor I'd mount it thar, If not just put it as far out on the transom as you can. You can mount it inside with a little work, I wouldn't think it's worth the trouble. involves pvc pipe RTV sealant and it takes a little room of your boat. But it can be done.....

Oh yea! Depth finders don't use enough current ta really run your battery down. At night watching your screen with the back light on will tell ya when your battery's are showing sighs of getting weak, the back light will dim a little. I reckon iffen ya got's one of them monster battery's you should be alright.

I have an Eagle Fisheasy 320c, and my instructions said the transducer won't shoot through aluminum or wood hulls. I would have loved to mount mine in the bottom of the boat. It was agonizing to me to drill two holes in my transom to mount the bracket for the transducer. If I ever put a trolling motor back on, I think I would put one on the trolling motor too, but I like to be able to watch the depth of the water as I'm running. Actually, the depth and temp features are about all I care about.

My fish locator transponder is on the transom relatively near the motor. It seems to work fine there. I also have one mounted on the trolling motor. It's ok too but it's an older unit and just doesn't seem to have the sensitivity. My newer unit is an Eagle Fishmark 320c. I had to send it back for repairs and the company sent me a brand new unit. Can't complain about that.
I am using a deep cycle trolling battery for my trolling motor and the front fish locator and a marine starting battery for the main locator, the motor, bilge pump and aerator. Again, no complaints so far.
Rob, I'm going to ask Buddy to pick up my decals for me on Friday. Thanks.

I foamed the bait tank tonight. I turned it into a round ice chest. I will put the lid on tomorrow. I sure wish I could come out Friday night, I would haul all yalls bait. I have to call in Minden at Glenbrook. I will be Back Judge. I hate it back there. No one to talk to. No kids to pick on. And if you mess up, everyone sees it. I am real bad about tell the coach when he grips at me, "coach if you did not like that one, you sure ant gona like the next one." They tend to shut up and go on then, cause they know what the next one is going to be. I may let a hold go, I may let a little pushing and shoving go, but I ant let the coach bother me with his mouth, nor a player do something unsportsmanlike.
Once a few years back, I had a coach step onto the field while a side line play was taking place. I ran over him. When I got my feet back under me, I flaged his butt. He was so mad he forgot to coach and lost the game because I flagged him for stepping on the field. I let him rant and rave for about 10 mins, the I told him. "coach this is my field right now, and you should not have been on it. And futher more, I HAVE HEARD ENOUGH OUT OF YOU!" I gave him that second unsportsmanlike, your going to the house look and he shut up and did not talk to me the rest of the season. We joke about it now, but he stays off my field when I am on his sideline. He is a good coach, he learns from his mistakes.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jim!!
Jim, just follow the directions and you'll be fine. Don't mount it too high or behind a keel or you will lose the signal at speed. You want the transducer to run in undisturbed water, not the wash from the motor, prop or keel. If you are going to run a trolling motor, you will have to get a second battery to be safe unless you have a pull start motor. I run one big battery to do it all and that goes against the grain but I don't have a trolling motor. Besides, the fish finder tells me what the voltage is. If it gets low, I run the motor for a few minutes.
Emmett did that 320 develop a rattle? I had two capacitors break lose in mine from vibration. They sent me a new one for $100.

David,
Do you have lines that go this way / or this way \ ?
If you do, that just means your transducer is pointing too far forward (/) or backward (\). A transducer has to be shooting pretty much straight down as the boat sits with you and your gear in it to get the fish arch (^). Next time you are out, reach down and move it forward or backward a little and see how that changes the screen.

Don't know what brand/model you have, but I had some problems with my Fisheasy, and the tech line told me to do a hard reboot on the unit. I have the instructions around here some where (e-mail I printed). My unit still seems to go banannas at times, but turning it off, then back on seems to fix it.

More about the bait tank. I plan on putting a LED light in this tank so you can see the bottom of the tank at night, which I fish mostly. Dose anyone have any suggestion on what type I sould use? I also plan to put a scale catch on the spray end. I will show that later. I have also found that I don't want the thing to run full time, so I will be adding a on/off switch to the pump. Other than that, I think it is ready to fish with.

Well, Roxie, I really like you and all, so just let my agent know when you show up, and I will have them go ahead and bring you to the front of the line. In fact, if you bring Buddy's copy of Kevin's book, I will personally sign it for you.
Oh, and the focused remark, you have been listening to Eric to long. You have to watch what you believe coming from him. :cool2:

Tony, that tank sits up too high. You ought to cut a hole and flush-mount the tank with the floor of the boat.
Reeves sells 12V LED lights for that application.
Man that is a sharp decal. I reacon I ought to put mine on too.:cool2:
I'm hitting 12-mile this afternoon with my 4 y/o so I can get a few bream for the tournament Thursday. I suppose I'll get out fairly early Thursday and gather up some shad too and proceed to lay the smack-down on my competitors; hopefully.
I'll see yall Friday for the Juggin at 7:00 PM.
We will finally get to meet Will!

I haven't duck hunted in four years. The last year that I did, I hunted in 4 different states.(la., ark., tx., and ok.) I loved it, but gave it up to spend more time trapping and white perch fishing in the winter! There just ain't enough hours in the day!!!

White perch fishing, white perch fishing? When did you go white perch fishing? I haven't seen any of them. Nor has Mom. You need to get back out there and go. You might even take me so I can learn to catch em.

Tony,
BPS has a sealed Live well light with 1 led that costs 9.98 I believe. We put some in Ersel's boat for courtesy lights at night. It would be great for that.
I don't duck hunt. I can't afford the time or money for a new hobby.

You may not have seen any last winter, but your Mom did!!!!!:ooooh: I made her promise not to tell ya!!!! I knew you would invite yourself to dinner and eat them all up!!! If you'd get your sorry tail out there with me and catch some, instead of whinin' about it, you wouldn't have to beg!!!! :tounge_out: You say you don't know how to catch them. Heck, you caught about 10 with me the last time you went!! That's not too bad!!! Do you remember how many I caught that day?????

That's a good looking motor Tony. You think these rednecks will ever be able to pronounce the name right? I need to run mine. It hasn't been cranked since July 4th. I think I'm just gonna have to bite the bullet and hit the river, low or no water. I'll just have to go in the daytime so I can actually see my boat get away from me when I'm walking it through the shallows.
That was scary. I sure hope yall have fun at this upcoming extravaganza. I wish it would cool off a little here and I'd really start fishing a lot. This will be my first winter to have a boat with enough oomph to really get up and down the river quick. When winter sets in. I'm moving it to the camphouse so I can mix my fishing and deer hunting. Hunt in the morning, fish at lunch, hunt in the evening, run lines after dark. Gonna be a good winter. The fishing's usally pretty good in the winter.

Nice decals on the motor Tony. Still can't get over the name though (Tophatzoo) and it got me to thinking. What would a top hat zoo look like and who would go to it? After all, they'd just lay around and if you made faces at them, they wouldn't do anything. Makes me think that no one would go but don't mention a top hat zoo to our fearless leaders, they'd just want to raise taxes to build one.

I LOVE deer hunting, but I am just as happy in a duck blind. It is alot more exciting than deer hunting and you can talk and cough and fart and not scare off the ducks!

I enjoy watching birds that had no intention of stopping being turned and called in. But even more, I like to see a really good dog, searching the sky when he hears you using a call, and seeing him literally tremble with the excitement of it...that's what I think is so awesome about duck hunting.:cool2:
Oh yeah, and you can fart when you want to.

I have never been duck huntin'. I'm just not going to kill anything I won't eat (unless I feel it is a threat to me), and those ducks are nasty to me. I've got a niece that lives in Natchitoches, and they always were cooking duck this and duck that. Now, I'm an ole LA boy, and I like most everything, but never cultivated a taste for duck. So much for that.
I talked the wife into going to Clark's tomorrow. (a little arm twisting there) If they have a cabin, we will spend the night then come back through by Teague Friday evening. If not, we will drive back over sometime Friday. See ya'll Friday.
