The wife and i headed to the river today to do some cattin, i was using shad and low and behold i ended up catching a 5# flathead cat on cut shad. poor bugger musta been hungry. other than that a real uneventful day besides me catching the wifes fish for her. i let her reel it in though. she was busy getting another pole rigged up. 2# channel cat.

congrats on your frist flathead, flatheads will bite on fresh cut shad. i put over 20 flatheads in the boat this year all on fresh cut shad. this was done mostly in the spring during prespawn. the 34 ponder in my avtar was caught on a shad head.

That there is a nice fish. i have just started to use cut shad. i figured that everyone was catching fish with them it was time for me to try it. seems to work except i havent figured out these circle hooks i bought. i guess i'm just used to ripping there lips off. hard habbit to break.

Let 'em rip their own lips off I reckon. You're right, it's hard to get used to. Also, if you're using the Gami Octopus with that bent back eye, you need to use a snell knot.
