Catching Shad and skip jacks

Can anyone tell me the best way to catch large shad or skip jacks for bait. I've netted small shad with dip nets but never seem to have any luck with the smaller fish.

CAST NET BOY CAST NET! works great but youll catch gamefish too. and the skip jacks arent possible to catch unless you get a dumb one. they are too fast to react when that noise hits the water.
