Hey, hows it going. Ive hit the aquaduct right at 145, just before 198 I believe it is. There is a bridge there with another channel that heads west. It gives a pretty good selection as you have a slow wash going to the channel west and a gate just past it if you want to hit the swift water. Ive done OK there, usually just a few at a time, no big quantity. In the past year or so Ive probly been about 6-10 times. I go out whitesbridge cut across dickerson to avenal cutoff to five points then down 145, you turn on the first street "El Dorado" prior to the duct so you can cut back through the orchard and pop up on the aquaduct, otherwise you have to park at the highway and walk under the aquaduct road gate. A buddy and I have been talking about going out early next week, after noon to mid evening kind of trip. I havent been doing much local fishing lately, just went out of virgs in morro last weekend on a overnight trip and had a blast, wish I could afford that sea fishing more often. There is some real cool satellite map pics on google maps if you look at el dorado and 145, click on the hybrid map and it shows the aquaduct and bridges etc. I dont know if this link will work- http://maps.google.com/maps?q=fresno,+ca&ll=36.324772,-120.233002&spn=0.006832,0.021730&t=h&hl=en

Welp unfortunatelly it was'nt Robbs night he lost one early in the evening, he had a line full of grass along with the fish and it just flipped itself off, but i was having Brians luck and landed 1 nice 4-1/2 pounder,

Another one twice that size we got up on the bank but it got too difficult trying to get to it and the line finally snapped and the fish plopped back in the water, we guess its weight was in the 8-10 pound range it FOUGHT LIKE HELLCAT  and another one i lost was just as big :cursing: , my freaken real handle busted and i was having a hard time getting the fish reeled, got some slack line and he thru the hook but Robb got a good look it was a BIG cat and i felt the thing what a fight.

I am kicken myself some for not having better gear for this type of fishing but i'll tellya this it won't happen again, lesson lived is a lesson learned.

I have some video i'll post later once i get it all editted.

Nope he's been getting skunked alot lately i keep hoping he lands something freaken huge.

Guy out there told us last night up to 65 pound stripers have been cought in their and huge huge catfish also. After my big reel broke i felt almost afraid to fish with my one other reel that had 6 pound spider wire and the other reel i had with 10 pound spider wire tottally inappropriate for fishing their.

We were fishing on a bridge and it was a good 15 feet to the water so anything big had to be brought over to the bank side, there was sand running down the cement embankment and slippery as snot so i did'nt try to get down to that big one i cought. We need an extension pole on the net for one thing and you need at least 25-30 pound test line minumum, just incase.

The spot we were at is a water pumping station area, there was a guy using rebles lures on the out side end of the pump station and he caught 1 keeper striper and lost another one while we were there, he said earlier he had lost a huge striper also.

Hey Capt i think we met about a month ago out on the Mendota, it was in the afternoon think it was a Friday i took the day off from work. Anyhow you had another guy with you i was in a big white truck and stopped and talked about fishing i'm a pretty big guy you'd remember me i was fishing with 3 poles? does that ring a bell?

Anyhow you go out manning ave (WAY OUT THEIR)
and just before some rises in the road take a left on San Diego, its a dirt road and that will take you right to the bridge.

vini

Theres another pump station area some guy told us about at 4 points or 5 points he says those areas are good fishing.

180 PAST KERMAN
L ON JAMES RD
TURN ON MANNING
TURN ON 33
DIRT ROAD BEFORE OR AFTER BRIDGE OVER AQUADUCT, TO PUMP PLANT.

OR GO ON DOWN TO NEXT RIGHT, THEN RIGHT ON DIRT ROAD INTO
ORCHARD, BACK TO AQUADUCT. ON THE LEFT IS A SHALLOW RAMP/ROAD
UP ONTO THE CANAL BANK BY THE PUMP.

Nope then that was'nt you he was driving a small station wagon i think, he said he was from clovis also.

Capt, That might be the same spot theres other ways out i think you can take Derrick to get out there too off manning.

They shut all the gates around 12:00 pm so I was like freaken a little bit asked the water district guy how the heck we could get out LOL we ened up driving the wrong direction all the way to I5 LOL was'nt my fault EHEMMmmm :glare:

And i think he opened those gates while he was their, he spent alot of time by the station and we were just about sure that water got going alot faster because the bite completely stopped, our sinkers were no longer staying on the bottom and i had 4 oz on one of my poles and that was not holding it down.

YEP saturday for sure i got off early today was almost tempted to go out but got some rest instead i have alot of work tomorrow and saturday to do still, worked till 6 pm last night and never stopped during the day so i am bushed but it all pays off later.

Yep, I think that pole worked great. I bet you are just bitting at the bit to try out that new reel, huh? I am interested in seeing how that fireline works. I heard good stuff about it. Just let me know what time you wanna hook up. I have not heard from Brian. I guess he still is good to go. Heard through the grapevine that the stripers are running the duct. Should hook up with some large ones Sat night!!!!!!!!! How is that net doing? You need my old pool pole?

vini
10-06-2005, 11:05 PM
I just keep staring at the reel LOL i'll put the line on tomorrow. The guy at the store says you're supposed to use monofilament the first few feet when attaching the line to the spool have you heard anything like that before?

I'm going to buy a roll of duct tape and we can attach the net when we get their, the pole is so long even un-exteneded it will hang oput the back of the truck .

Hope Brian goes, but then again he'll just end up taking all the fish out of the duct and i'll be his light man and you can run the net end of the game :cursing:

MAN i would love to catch a huge striper , that thing would definetly go home with me and be on my dinner plate Mmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmm.

We should leave at least around 4 Saturday? i'll get some liver tomorrow have to go and do some shopping then and we'll get cut bait on the way, sound Goot?

daystarchis
10-07-2005, 12:27 PM
I have heard that too. I dunno. Maybe for the stretch, or use cheap extra line to help fill up the reel so you do not waste the fireline. Yep, hope ole Brian goes too. I have first dibs to fish next to him :006: LOL....Just kidding  Sounds good bro. Supposed to be 10 degrees cooler over the weekend with a breeze I hear. Prepare for the cold

We did'nt do really great largest fish was a 7 pounder i caught, man what a fight the new reel was fantastic and line too only worry i had was the fish throwing the hook and keepin a tight line.

My net man Robb did a supurb job of handling his part :D

I'll let Robb tell you about the guy he spoke too and the fish that they had, it was quite a stringer of striper and cat.

Got a lil nippy though :D Want to appologize to Brian though. Vince and I waited till 4:20 and I called ya twice but didn't know if you got the dirrections off of the board. Really sorry bro.
Any who.....Shad is running along the edge up there and with my pool net and long pole, I mshould be able to swoop up some very nice 4-6 inch shad. Many large strippers jumping and boiling. Going crazy over them shad. The hits are very hard and quick. You got to put something heavy on the handle of your pole or it WILL go into the duct. lol....Seriously! Vince rigged up the net with a 20+ ft. pole. Worked great! Walked down and was checking the head gates and seen a truck down the way. I walked down and asked them how they are doing. Father and older son both had to pull up their stringer. They had what appeared to be a 15+ lb and a 10+ lb stripper and a 10+ lb cat. Caught on mack and liver. Very nice fish indeed ;) Got some good picts I need to post. Have 3-4 fishing trips on my camera  Need to down load them suckers soon.

You know me Brian, I am always ready. If Vince don't go, It will be pretty hard to land those fish without a long net. May have to go out to the slough. I guess we will see tomorrow.
I have an extra net and I'm thinking about how to rig a long handle for the duct. Any ideas?

Robb and Vini,

I AM GOING TONIGHT. i wil lmeet you at Robbs as uick as I can tongiht.

CApt Steve,
As far as extending the net, I recomend a good sturdy piece of PVC pipe that you can run over the top and I recomend use some type of a nut and bolt combo that you take on and off easy for various purposes such as drill a hols and use a bolt with a wing nut.

Sorry i could'nt make it guys how did you do Saturday night?

I'm getting really overwhelmed with all this work i'm ready to finish what i have and let the rest go, scrooit i don't need the money that danged bad to go thru all of this stress, no way!!!!!

I have a telescoping pole used for changing light bulbs that I bought at Harbor Freight before it burned down. Combined with the net handle it will be 14 ft long. Is that long enough for the 'duct?

Capt steve,
14 feet shoul dbe very close for the bridge and long enough for the sides.

Aquaduct produced a big SKUNK, saturday night. Lots of stripers rolling, but nothing biting, one small bite to start the day, but that was it.

Was that recently Captain? i was just getting ready to go to harbor freight to buy some things?

that should be enough Captain the pole i have is 11' unextended and 22' all the way extended and the net is 5 feet or so i think. i have to extend the pole to hold the net so lets see 11 an 5 is 16 and theres plenty of extra pole there dededu mm hmmm yeah 14 feets enough LOL

If a guy could trole that water Bri for striper i bet he'd do pretty damn good but no boats allowed :cursing: sorry you guys got skunkered i hate that i'll go ahead and go next time and have a little talk with them fishys for ya :D

Well i got thru part of the way until it wanted me to prompt in text based section with code and i could'nt figure it out even went to HELP no help LOL, this is a little over the top for me, not sure how long i can keep running without the file and it is a security file from what i understand which makes me vulnerable to attack? is that correct Bri?????

I'll get you over here some day to take a peak and see what you can do for me , whenever you have time.

A working copy of hal.dll WILL be found in “C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386”

I am not sure abou the copying of files back into the registry, I would have to double check that. As far as the command prompt stuff goes, if you want mabye I can arrange a time this weekend either to meet you at your place or get you on the phon if oyu want and I can run you through it.
