What would the Kansas site be without this thread!!
Went down to the 8th Street ramp a bit ago, not open yet but they do have the concrete in place. Looks like they need to haul in some rock and it will be ready to use. I'll post up when the ramp is open.

Charlie, Sounds good. We gots to have the Kansas river thread! Are they extending the ramp? Making it so more people will launch in your back yard?
center12
08-15-2005, 03:54 PM
Yeah Geoff they extended the ramp a bit, but that will be for not if they just push the mud straight down the ramp when they clean it. Don't really care about folks launching and fishing there, most head up to the dam so they don't bother me any. They can keep the dam if I can have the rest ;)

Just tell her you'll pack some heat in your fishin saddle, I do. Well, ok it's your mom and she probably wouldn't approve. I've never heard of anyone having trouble down there, granted I haven't fished there in years. Last time I was there in the early 90's, I fell asleep on the rocks and woke up to a spider chewing a new mouth on my upper cheek. Man that was painful, it made me lightheaded and sick to my stomach. I barely made it up that mount everest of a dirt wall. I think I have a phobia of that place cause I've never wanted to go back there since. :cursing:

Skyler,
I drive over the Kaw to and from work every day down at kansas avenue near the turner diagnal. I occassionally see guys down there fishing but not very often. It appears that you can walk down to the river pretty easy maybe 100 yds or less. It's just a suggestion. I also know of some places out near linwood and eudora, one of them is where stranger creek empties into the kaw. That spot looks pretty good if memory serves me correct. You would have to do a little hike down to the river but not too bad.

I didn't think that rain would ever stop lastnight. Only caught a couple smaller blues and channels on the Kaw River Friday night. The river became almost unfishable towards the morning with a lot of debris coming down. I would assume it will take a day or so to clear out. As for Kaw Point, I did here that a guy had his truck broken into during the daylight hours on Friday. They waited inside his truck until he returned to load his boat up and beat the crap out of him and stole his truck and trailer. And I guess some peeps had their windows broken out during the night last week also. I saw security last night down there, which is a common sight. Figured I'd pass that on and maybe fishing will pick up after the river stablizies.

What happen to the boat ramp in Edwardsville by the park, my father-in-law and I drove around for awhile trying to find the darn thing but couldnt find it. I think the city tore it out. Is there another ramp in the general area?
crazy
08-20-2005, 06:56 PM
Damn that sucks. It's a shame that such a nice boat ramp has problems like that. Makes me think twice about using that ramp. Although I always see security hanging around I know there not always there 100% of the time. Parkville needs to fix there ramp so I don't have to drive so far and have to worry about getting my truck broke into.

I have an uncle that used to own about a mile or 2 of river front property in Weston, Mo. The Mo flows through the landed that he owned. I should be able to get access to the river.

Gary and I fished the Kaw last night. We were going to launch at Kaw Point until we had all that rain Friday night. We didn't have anyother real noticeable bites.

Water looked pretty muddy when I crossed the bridge, is there much debris in the water? We still have a lot of foam coming down the river. I was hoping it would stay clear for a while, I'm getting ready to go gar fishing.......intentually  Figure while I got a crankbait down there trying to intice a few gar I might get lucky and catch a cat or 2. Did I mention I'm a big fan of gar abuse :D . Off to the lake I guess, only get to run 1 trotline.........son would rather play with one of his little TROLL buddies.

The spot near the Turner Diagonal is pretty good. They put up the blockades about 2 years ago so you can't drive down there anymore but it's worth the walk. If you fish right under the bridge the lights make it nice. You can half way see what you are doing and atleast see if you are about to step in a hole or the water. Only downside is fishing it on a Fri or Sat night. Lots of people toss their beer bottles while crossing it. Be sure to wear a hard hat or stay under the bridge. There is another spot at the West end of Woodend road that's fair. If you go down K-32 to 76th street you can walk out onto a big sandbar when the water is low. I really need to get a Kansas License again.

Fished the Kaw River lastnight from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Caught over 200 lbs of cats with an average of a lil over 20lbs. Blues, Channels, & Flathead. The river level was down to where it was before the rain last weekend, but the current was flowing at least 3 times faster.

Hey guys, just thought I'd stop in and say hi. I'm still trying to get into the spirit of the new site. The jury is still out, but I'm not sure if this is an improvement over the old site or not! The catfishing here in the Neosho river is slow...lots of bites...but it seems like they're so small that they cant get the hook in their mouth. I have been catching alot of channel out of the strip pits though...but it's just not the same as fishing the Neosho when the action is hot. Good luck 'yall, and be safe!

launched at Kaw Point early sun morning, new to this section of the river, so I used a run and gun approach with cut shad and didn't even get a single bite. I was hoping to coax a few smaller cats into biting so I could get a clue where to set up for an all nighter this weekend. but to no avail. i'm used to fishing in less remote sections of the river, it seemed kinda odd to be fishing with kemper arena over My sholder. lol Maybe I should have gone the other way onto the MO. any suggestions????
Individualist
09-28-2005, 09:00 AM
Brad, The fishing has been kinda slow lately. I pretty sure they were tearing the blues up in that area around Kemper a while back. So it's probably not the spot your fishing but rather the fish are not biting well. I hope it changes soon, it's been a long time since I've gotten into some fish other than the occasional catch.

Hey Tom, what did you think about all of the blue cats folks were pulling from the Kaw this year? I know there have always been some, I remember you caught a nice one last year, but it seems like they were all of a sudden everywhere this year. Tom, any idea what country prices will be on coons this season? Was thinking about pulling out the coon rigs and running a waterline for a week.......just selling green skins. If your interested in some coon size wire strecthers let me know, I think I've got around 6 dozen. I'd be willing to sell a few. Last time I sold coons I got 5$ each for finished hides......that just ain't worth it brother, if you ain't ever fleshed a coon you have no idea how wrong that price is!!!

09-30-2005, 01:29 PM
I hear there only going to be a buck or 2. Not even worth trapping for the money. From what I understand is that there is still a surplus from last season that they can't sell.
warcraft1975
10-01-2005, 02:13 AM
charlie according to this months issue of fur fish game prime heavy skins will move around 11-16 bucks lesser grades will bring the buck or too, there is carry over from last year but most traders are thinking they all will move to china and russia this winter but buyers will be cautious with them this winter ,mink are back up and bobcats are going high as heck for prime skins, beaver is doing so ,so red fox doing pretty good this year also and coyotes have become popular again for trim in the east

big kc, kaw point is By strawberry hill where the Kaw dumps into the missouri river. bank fishing access is fairly limited but can be done. just be careful there is a homeless camp under the fourth bridge west from the ramp, they look harmless enogh, but ya just never can tell. A lot of homeless people suffer from mental illness and can be unpredictable. I have never had any trouble from anyone down there myself just be careful. I can provide better directions there if you want them E-mail me. Here's a pic of the 20lber we caught this weekend (finaly got a scale and a new net)
