Here's a picture of my jugs.I have a weight inside of them so when a fish bites the weight will fall to the bottom of the jug and keep it upright so you know to check for fish or bait...

I'm still using the 3 liter pepsi bottles with the inside painted white you can see them from a long distance off. I run about a 6 foot drop rigged on a 3-way swivel with the 5 oz. bell sinker on about a 12 to 15 inch drop and the 7/0 kahle on a 4 to 6 inch drop. When not in use you can wind your line up around the neck of the bottle and drop the 5 oz. bell - hook - and 3-way inside the bottle then screw the cap back on. They have worked really well for me the 3-liters seem to have enough boyancy to give a good hook set when the fish hits.
I like the looks of both of the posted jugs looks like they would work really well. Thanks for sharing I'm always on the watch for a nice looking set of jugs:big_smile: :embarassed: .

James, you and Buddy both did a real nice job on your jugs. I also guess that my age is showing. First thing I thought of when I saw the thread was catfishing! I'm in the same boat as Rob. My jugs are very simple, noodle, line and hook. I have some literal jugs that are just as simple. I'm always looking for improvements and think that I saw some new ideas to try here. Thanks for a good thread.

Hey Gents, I was over at Walmart Wednesday and they had there noodles on clearance of 50 cents and they had a good supply of them. I don't know what they normally cost but I thought .50 looked pretty good so ya'll keep your eye out they may be doing it all over.

when i was a teenager and didnt know better aka shoulda read the regs. I used to use a big gatorade bottle with 50 # test tyied to it with a since and treble. when I'd see it bobbing around or moving into the wind instead of with it, then I'd paddle my inflatable raft over and pull it in. and yes, catfish spines and inflatable rafts dont mix well as I found out the hard way.

I had my rebar cut for a year and just now got it placed in my jugs. I do make some though without it so it does not flag when I am not around. I found out the hard way that other fishermen see them and run them when I am out of sight. I use the flag jugs when I am with them or let them drift and I am following.

Johnny (777), my rig is similar to yours, but with a few minor differences. I paint my 2-liter jugs bright yellow because it shows up better than other colors I've tried, such as orange, white, black, and green. I paint the outside because I put about 3 ounces of gravel, lead scraps, or other such weights inside each jug, and it would quickly wear inside paint away. The weights keep the jugs from blowing so badly in the wind, plus, when I get a bite that tips the jug up, the weights slide down into the neck of the jug and keep it in a tipped position. I use a 16p or 20p nail for a weight. I've found that putting the cap on over the line does cause some significant wear, so I only put the sinker inside the jug so that any weak spot in the line is between the bottom hook and the sinker. I'm doing some experimenting with a foam ring around the cap to use for more secure hook storage.

What size pvc does everyone us when making them? I would like to make some cause I'm using old milk jugs. They work fine, but they take too much room.

Most of the plans I have seen call for 1/2" but I think it really depends on the size of the hole in your particular noodles. I use 3/4" for mine and they fit very tightly (like I want).

Guys, MY JUGS ARE BIGGER THAN YOURS!!! I used to have small ones like the ones you have shown but now after loosing several from monster cat fish that I only can dream about. I use the large noodle and cut it into three pieces..run a line through the top and then drop the line through the jug out the other end..this really causes the jug to get up quick when a fish is on..even when it is not a monster the long jug (noodles) stand up good. On most of them I have installed a cork that fits inside the center of the jug with 10 to 15 feet of line on it so if a monster does pop one of these jugs under the force of the water/air will pop my cork out so if he tries to hide in deeper water I should still be able to find him. Sorry, I cant show you my big jugs..my wife wont let me..she says we can afford one of those cameras that take pictures and I can hook up to the computer..got no body to show them to!!!!:sad2:

Hey James, be sure when you tear up a cast net that you cut all those weights off for your noodles. They weigh 1 oz each on a standard cast net. That's all I use on my noodles. I noticed you had store bought.

If you add up the cost of all the 1 oz weights you get off a 4 ft. radius cast net and compare it to buying the same amount of 1 oz weights from Academy it comes out about exactly the cost of the net.

I am glad your picture also shows how you setup your line. Its nice to see everyones jugs but in my opinion its what you have below the water surface that makes the difference.

Thanks for that tip Jim, I never thought about that!

I bought the weights I am using now off ebay about 2 years ago but never had a use for them. They were dirt cheap so I couldn't resist buying them. I knew sooner or later I'd find a use for them!

That is a smooth looking jug. Could you post a pic of it up close with the terminal gear and everything?
