New Personal Best Flathead catfish

I fished the Allegheny River Thursday evening with a buddy from work, Ed.H. The river came way up and is off colored but fishable. I caught my new personal best Flathead - 37", 25.5# on a Bluegill. I am very excited! Wow, what a awesome battle!:big_smile: :cool2: :big_smile: A couple photos attached.

Dear Brother Williams;
What a WONDERFUL Catch!!!!:big_smile: I think any of our members would be happy and proud to land one like that!
I know I would be very Proud and HAPPY to land a critter that size and hope I do real soon too!
I don't know if you did this or thought about it but if I catch one like that, I will have to take a bunch of photos and measurements, then put the Critter back in the water so it could grow even bigger for someone else to catch.
Then I would take the lot of measurements and photos to an aquatic taxidermist to make a life sized model for me to put in my home.:smile2:
Like many others have already posted, I too hope you get to land an even bigger one in the days ahead! :smile2:

nice fish, that fish is L O N G for its size... 37'' and 25.5, caught one few weeks ago that was about 35# and was only about 37 in, but he was pond fed, gills, crappie, yeah the works.. fat one

way to go scott! My biggest was a 37" 23lb 9 ounces. I was fortunate at the time to be in a contest and won first place. I bought a new depth finder. I won $570!!!!

By the way, I ask a bioligist about the age of the fish, he said in the nieghborhood of 11 years old! Just a tidbit you maybe interested in.

I got thinking and was looking at my log book, I caught mine when the river was high. I just had enough of an eddie to get my boat out of the swift current. the bait fish had the same idea and so did the catfish.

Paul - Yeah, I had the Bluegill cast out right out at the edge of a mudline/current edge where the water drops off quickly from 12' to 25' deep.

Congrats on the new personal best Scott, beautifull cat. I was down at Lock 6 Thursday night. Pulled an all nighter but had to keep moving further and further back as the river was rising all night long. Slow night except from 3:30 AM to 5:15 AM when I could only keep one rod in the water. Caught 11 cats in that time, took home 6 between 16" and 19". Made a pot of catfish chowder and took some filltes to my buddy who didn't want to go that night. Had to make him jealous.:lol:
