Watcha wanna know?
Live in Gwinnett Co...moved here about a year ago.
The hooch is right around the block so I bought a beat up 14' jon boat to relax and fish. (not very relaxing getting in and out of the water since I have no trailer yet and getting it in and out of the truck by myself isn't all that fun..dang thing ain't light)
Not much up this way on the river cept for trout though.
Haven't really done any strictly catfishing since I was a kid..maybe 15 years ago.
But I do love to fish, camp and 4 wheel. Like I said, bought the beat up boat last month and a couple years ago bought a 30 foot travel trailer (yeah I know not too hardcore but it's the only way the little lady will go camping with me..with a built in toilet and a shower..ROTFL...but I won't complain cause she stocks it with food and keeps me fed while we're out and it's fits the two of us plus 6 kids)
So now I'm looking to start getting around some of the lakes and do a little fishing and maybe start hunting again next year.
Read about your gathering, and actually wanted to go and tried to plan around to do so, but the schedule didn't allow it.
Anyways here I am finally chiming in, hoping to meet some people to hang out and fish with.

Any of you guys ever fished Union Creek off the Savannah River? Its tidal affected but appears to be loaded with blues and channels. Been doing a good bit of scouting around in that area and catching a lot of fish, nothing over about six lbs. Im sure there are big fish in this creek but just havent targeted them yet. Gotta wait till Im not loaded down with grandkids !!! Mine dont have the patience to wait out the big boys !! This place has catfish wrote all over it.......but I never see another boat in there except for an occasional bass fisher or bream fisher.

Hey Qball, I went Saturday morning, and back Saturday evening and back Sunday morning, in the Hughes Old River............I caught a mixture of Bream, Shellcracker, Warmouth and even 1 White Perch on Pinks.
I also caught a few channels every time..........the largest was 14 lbs....he gave that Zebco 33 a run for it's money....
Have you ever heard of a "shoehead" cat??

Small live bream are awesome for jugging @ C.H. You will catch some gars, but they are still fun to chase down. I made a small minnow trap out of wire, but in some bread, in an hour or so you'll have half a dozen or more small bream around the 2" range.

thanks for that tip
it's a 3 hour haul from PWW to the Hill so keeping bait alive might be a problem for me
surely will try that when i have a couple of days there
any thoughts on a good bought bait ?
Have fished in Union creek.
Even caught a few cats on worms when pitching for red breast and brim .

Hey smackover, I have done some research on the trap I mentioned in my post. I don't think its legal to use bream for bate unless they are caught on rod a reel. Just a thought.
I was searching to see if some members were near the Dublin Laurens county area ?:confused2:

We didn't fish lake bluff we mostly stayed in the back lakes. I was draging the boat for about an hour trying to get to horn lake. But hay it was a day on the water with my little girl.

I lived near Lake Eufaula for four years. We never fished the main lake for cats. We fished the river just below the dam. We would catch shad up against wall at the locks, then move out into the current and using the motor to keep us barely moving would drift slowly down river. We caught quite a few in the teens and twenties this way. That was 25 years ago tho.

hey catters,
what happen to everyone talking on here. the river is low and a bit of a challenge getting up and down. but the fish are still biting.I usually fish the altahama around the tattnell and long co. line but moved down last weekend all the way to barrington ferry the river is a little deeper there and bigger than around jesup but BEWARE so are the gators and thunder storms. I was in the worst storm ever there friday night, SUNK THE BOAT the fishing stopped and I got out a.s.a.p after getting the boat up floating.but there were some guys fishing around jesup said they caught three flatheads 30-15 lbs.

Spinnercat, sorry to hear you sunk your boat..glad you got it upright. That storm was pretty bad, I think I drove through some of it on my way up I-16 in the moving truck. I drove a 26' moving truck in that rain! Not sure what has happened to the GA members, we post here and there. I use to spend a lot of time on here, not much anymore. I'm up on Decatur now and fish lake Oconee mostly.

hey catcam,
glad you made your trip o.k.. we had a little fishing tournament friday so I was going for the big one . I made it back to the landing but the bilge pump could not keep up and down she went. luckly I pulled the boat up far enough not to sink the motor. so did you get moved? just because you went north (aint) ha!ha! a reason not to keep in touch. I will keep you posted on this end and maybe you can do the same on your end. good luck with the lake and finding all those hot fishing spots . BE CAREFUL O.K.

Hey qball I'm pretty sure I know you. You might recognize me if you seen me. I live over in Ludowici. I think we used to run in some of the same places years ago. Me and RD used to hang out, but not in a long time. Somebody introduced me to you not to long ago, but I can't remember who it was.
