I have only fished one river in Illinois, and that was the Kaskaskia, I really want to get down there and fish the Mississippi though

Where at along the Illinois? I usually cover the stretch along the Joliet area, but too much pleasure boaters get in the way. Lately I go up the Kankakee or Fox Rivers, have good luck there.

Strip mines around Canton. Lived there for several years and did business with local mines and had keys to several locations. Ruined me for normail fishing. Not unusual to catch several large bass, crappie (by the hundreds), and cats in a trip.

The strip pits around Knox County(Galesburg area) for channels, and I'm starting to like the Rock River for "bigger" fish.

I had my best luck at lake yeager near litchfield, also had some good luck at glenn shoals near hillsboro. I hear coffeen and sangchris are good for some big flats but really haven't tried for them yet.

I been to a few places around here and for me I like CrabOrchard because it is comfortable. I can sit on a bench at the edge of the water. I have the wonderful advantage of being in a relaxing place and sometimes I catch some fish.

How about the Newton CIPS lake for channel. Wow, talk about getting hammered. Especially in the fall up around the warm water discharge. You're garuanteed to catch fish, just nothing much larger than 7-8 lbs.

Rock River near Rock Falls/Sterling area.

As soon as I buy a boat I hope to try some of these other places you all have mentioned.

Has anybody fished the I&M Canal near Channahon (Joliet)?
My grandpa used to take me back there when I was a kid. I remember seeing some HUGE fish pulled out of there.
