Trying to guage to see if there is any interest in any get togethers. We have the Mendota gathering, but not a lot of interest this year for some reason:confused2: Post your thoughts here............
I would love a northern cali one but with the basic places i know being under water still and other stuff going on and now the new store i aint even got time to try to put one toghter :( but if there was one up in my area id sure go if it fell on a day i can get away.
Tell me about it Mutt the San Jauquin river is at least 20-30 feet higher then it was this time last week.
THe Medota sleugh should be fine they can control that are that the gathering will be at and there should be ALOT of fish out there i'm betting maybe some record fish this year too

Don't know about going all the way down to Mendota, but if there were a gathering closer to home, up around here in N. Cali I'd be real interested in going. There are some real monsters around the dam in Lake Shasta from what I've been told.

It's all about timing for me, with this job of minds - I was lucky enough to have the time to make the "Colorado River Gathering" this year & the "Mendota Gathering" the year before that, and at both of them - I had the time of my life.
With a Nor. Cal. Gathering, I will be able to make that time. So I would love to have a Gathering in my own back yard (Ca. Delta).

You got some spots too:wink: You have any ideas:confused2: Resovoir, River, Canals???? You got them Stockton and Lodi spots. There is Rio Vista Area. So many places so little time:sad2:
id like to hook up with Phil and Bert and find some good areas to fish. So tired of the lousy places that I know of for cats. I also wish I had a bit more free time now too lol.

I am from redding myself. Jones valley is another good spot for cats, But shasta lake is so big unless you are with someone who is already keyed in on the cat spots it can be a little difficult, but you can pull out some nice channels and some sturgeon, the bass bite has been hot and there is also a good trout pop if you can get on them this time of year.

i have heard that clear lake has a good cat bite and some biguns too. I heard you dont really want to eat those cats though. My old man told me that on more than one occasion while fishing for bass with nightcrawlers carolina rigged he has caught quite a few 10 plus punders right off the bank.

There was also talk last year at the mendota gathering on Amador, New Malones, and clear lake. SL Res is another option. There is plenty of room at the rivers too:big_smile:
New Malones would be a awesome spot to have a gathering.

Hey Allen....shasta is BEAUTIFUL!!! My sister lives there in Redding. You live up that way?
Yup. I live in Orland, right off the I-5 where it crosses HWY-32, about an hour south of Redding. I was born in Redding as a matter of fact. Moved to central Cali when I was 12, and just moved back to this neck of the woods about a year ago and couldn't be happier to be back!
Went out last night with my new girlfriend and her son, her boy caught a 15" stiper within minutes, couple hours later my girl caught about a 6 pound channel cat that was great. OH the fish had 2 other hooks in its mouth that had broken off from other fishermen:big_smile: but she got him.
Met Loyd out there What a great guy it was a pleaaure to meet you Sir.
There still out there if anyones going out I'm going to try to track them this evening again when I get donw with work.
Robb made some of his great carna asada's Mmmmmmmmm Mmmmmmmmm:tounge_out:they had a few nice cats and were catching some bluegill nice pan sizers.

Hey Vini, you ever go to Mary's Pet Store when Mary still owned it and Lori was running it? It's the one that used to be behind the carwash off of Ashlan and Gettiesburg (sp?).

I used to buy crickets there when Alcorns was out of them.

I went out last night for a few hours. Had a few bites but just caught one striper. It was sure great meeting Loyd and swapping stories about the 'good old days'.
Alcorns thats right.
Did you get out to the slough Steve?

Oh ya? Back in 2001-2002? That's when I was there if memory serves (which it might be off sometimes). I worked at Whitie's on Blackstone for a little over a year too, back in 2000-2001. Finally got tired of doing 3 times the work of the kids John likes to hire and having John cop out and tell me that he just expects more out of me cause I was a better worker but never doing anything to compensate me for it, such as lets say... A RAISE!!!
Got into finanace after I left the pet trade when Mary's went under though and did collections for a few years there at NCI in the top floor of the Manchester Mall before moving out to Vegas for about a year. the pay in Vegas was a lot better, but then wound up coming back to Fresno for my wife to be there for her mom who was pretty ill (bedridden at the time). She got better and the family moved up here to N. Cali, and I wound up making more doing collections for a furnature store in chico than they was paying me in Vegas, which blew my mind!
Pretty much stinks that I wound up having to file for disability and quit working, but on the bright side it leaves me lots of time for fishing.

Somehow I missed that post LOL OH we posted at the exact same moment Steve :)
Allen I was on disability for several years and you're going to have lots of time on you're hands man. find things to occupy them mayube even look into training for something you're able to do at home, Ebay stuff or whatever to make a few extra bucks and kill time fishin may not be enough. Get some other hobbies going too and do some volunteer work

Thanks for the advice, but being a stay at home dad is a full time job in itself with two boys, 1 &1/2 and the other is 6. I play with the boys, play video games on my computer, and surf the net a lot, so I got stuff to kill time aplenty. Been out of the work force since November and doing ok so far. I don't even watch much TV, LOL!
So what's the word on a N. Cali gathering since that's what this thread was originally about before it got inadvertently highjecked? Any hope of having one at lake shasta or Lake Oroville? shoot I'd even try my best to get down as far as Clear Lake if I gotta.

So I guess the word is "no" for the N. Cali gathering? Please let me know if anyone puts one together anyplace North of Clear Lake and I'll do my best to get there, schedules permitting.

Lets plan something for august september near Brannon State park. We can camp out near the river and the salmon and striper run should be starting. Just an idea I'm open to almost anything up here. It's just the longer distance trips that some times interfere with my schedule.

I DL'd Google Earth satalite map to pinpoint locations across the entire world and it seems like every time someone on here says a location, it's not on there! Ok, where is Shark City and Brannon State Park in relation to I-5?

Ahh... ok. that's pretty far for me unfortunately. I think Clear Lake is about as far south as I'd be able to make it for a day trip. If it were a weekend gathering (camping overnight) it would be worth the drive though.

I believe it would be 1-2 nights Allen. When I go up there I usually stay over night.

OK, sounds good. It may be a lil difficult to get folks there with the way it's been looking. Like for example I am posting here bout a Nor cal gathering and you been posting, but the other Nor cal folks don't seem to interested. :confused2: I am there and count me in bro. Let's see if we can get some responce:roll_eyes:

Still in the process of moving at the moment, but I can break away now andagain to get to Black Butte Lake if there are any takers for some bank fishing for cats. Things are still up in the air for me on the N. Cali gathering til we have something set up for exactly where and when.
