Playing Hooky and Maliki, It's always a pleasure to welcome more NC members to the BOC. I hope you find eveything you are looking for and if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask them. Just try to be as specific as you can so that we can respond with helpful info. As far as rigging goes there are a couple of threads already started on the subject that should be helpful. If they still don't answer your question just let us know and we will be glad to help.

If you guys are looking for good catting waters the Yadkin river chain offers the best in the state. Highrock for flats and channels, Tuckertown for flats and Badin and Tillery for big blues and gaint flats. Couldn't ask for any better water to fish.

Never fished the Yadkin river.I have heard that High rock has some nice ones.I personally think that the Cape Fear is one of the best places in NC for Moster cats i have seen some huge ones pulled from there on a regular basis.

Yadkin county here. Good to see some folks not too far away.
Maliki, are you bank fishing Norman at the state park? Isn't that kind more of separate lake and not the Lake proper? Anyway, you might try fishing not so far from the bank near that structure. At the community pond where I fish, they are coming closer to the bank in the evenings. Gus's Norman report this week also indicated they are not in as deep water right now: "Catfish are on bottom in water twenty five feet or less". They also were hitting better on the evenings before the cooler days we had (Tues. & Thurs.). I am hoping the same will be true tomorrow evening and Tues. morning when the next cool front starts moving in. Might be a great time to hit the park.

Hey Yadkinangler which lakes do fish? If you really want bigger fish stick with badin or Tillery. Highrock has some nice flats but not the real trophies. 30-60lb blues on badin are pretty common.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I fish mostly community ponds and creeks and starting some on the Yadkin itself, with the occassional trip to Lake Norman. Mapquest says Badin is about an hour and 45 minutes from where I live, so a little far for most evening trips. I have been looking at giving it a try the next time I take a couple of days off from work. The park web site makes it look as if it might be the most accessible for us bank fishermen.
The eater channels have really been hitting the cured garlic liver this week in the areas I fish. I think I missed several tonight from not having enough sun today to cure the liver as much as I wanted. They were getting the bait off in the first couple of nips.

I was stationed at Fort Bragg (82nd Airborne), from 2000 til 2003, and spent most of my weekends fishing some old riverbeds, and they produced some nice cats....Always used Stink bait, aslong as Chicken Livers....Tried soap aswell, but hey, with cats, anythings a good try.....I now live back in my home state in Wisconsin, and fishing on the big river, and had good luck there....Never seen anyone catch a biggen like you would down there...I have noticed that the cats up here don't like that much chicken or turkey liver.....The Channels like Stink bait, and so forth, just as usual...But I do catch some nice 12 to 18 pounders even in the day, in 90 degree heat, and even when its rainging...But I'd have to give it to The NC for good catfishing......You guys have it nice down there.....and if theres ever a chance, I would gladly come back down for more...... :rock-big:

Hi Guys, I'm pretty new to the BOC myself. I live in Summerfield just north of Greensboro, but I've fished most everywhere in the area. I like High Rock, but my favorite is Tuckertown. I'm living more north now so I'm trying to find some good bank fishing in the Dan River. Any help would be appreciated. I love a good Catfight!

I went to Danville today. I think I crossed over the Dan river 4 or 5 times.
There is a boat ramp on highway 57 or 62. I cant remember if the the ramp is in NC or VA. but highway 57 is NC highway 62 is VA.
Any way its the highway that runs from Danville to Roxsboro.
Crosses over Hyco lake about 3 times.
That ramp area looked plenty accessible for bankfishing.
I wouldnt mind trying that area myself one day.
Hello everyone it has been a long time since I checked out the new posts (we moved from Texas to Fayetteville, NC). I like the new site. I lived in Raleigh from 84 to 91 fiashed Falls Lake alot during that time but I never had the chance to come to Fayetteville and I need to know where the boat ramps are on the Cape Fear, the gas prices are too high to just go drive around. Thanks :0a31:

Boz, the best ramp and safest ramp to liver a vehicle at is at riverside.
the launch fee is 4 or 5 bucks.
Turn right at the first light after you cross over the river on hwy 24 coming from Business 95 or Ramsey St.
Within a few blocks of the big Grove St and Business 95 intersection.
Lock three is 15 minutes down Hwy 87. I would leave my vehicle there at night also.
Some of those ramps around Fayetteville just arent kept up. When you back down a ramp and hit the brakes and the truck keeps sliding towards the water on slick mud and moss is no fun and you better have 4 wheel drive.
It's just a shame that a nice tackleshop like riverside isn't run any better then it is. They sell catfishing gear but it's junk no serious fisherman wants.
Their reel selection sucks and it might as well, their rod selection does too.
About the only thing they have that I buy once in awhile is 8/0 hooks.
That place could be a real money maker with a little go git em attitude.

I found this old thread and decided to chime in since I am "newbie" to the site. I am in Gaston County and began chasing trophy cats this year. After years of slinging #2 hooks and nightcrawlers from the bank I decided to step it up a notch! Now it is cut bait and 5/0-7/0 hooks.
One the nice things about fishing for catfish is that everyone from kids to adults, regardless of income or experience, can go out and pursue those whiskery rascals.

Mark J. Thanks for the info. I won't get a chance to use it till after christmas due to having to attend the NCO Academy in Alabama in Nov. Hopefully I will get a chance to get some fishing in when I get back. I like the new site it looks great and seems to be easier to use. :D

Hi, I'm new to this site. I registered on the old site last spring. But never got to get on here much.....Was fishing too much, and still am too. :D
But I'm from Gaston Lake, NC. I dont live on the lake but I live close to it and fish there almost everyday of the summer, and almost every weekend of the rest of the year. Im 15 year's old and so far my biggest catfish out of gaston is a 43 pound Blue Cat which I caught off the bank. I've also caught a few big channel cats 10-15 lber's, but I caught them out of the Roanoke River. I fish with my dad, because I cant drive a car yet. And my dad and I really enjoy fishing together. Right now we are on the bank, due to boat problems. But we just got a new motor for our "smaller" boat which is '15 foot. And we plan to be back in a boat by mid-November. And we might have our "big" boat which is '21 foot, on the water by next fall.
We also do alot of saltwater fishing. Mostly for Cobia, Sharks, ect. at the Outer Bank's around Cape Hatteras. And sometimes we go out with my dad's friend that is a saltwater charter boat captain. We mostly go after Marlin and Dolphin when we go out deep. But plan on going this fall for King Mackeral
Anyway, I plan on getting on this website alot more now. And hope to make many more catfishing friend's.
Good "cattin" to ya !!!

Hey wait a minute there Jim. I know for a fact, Keith has an IQ higher than a house plant. There's no reason you need to call him an old goat.
Hiya Tammy, bought time you prettied up this site.

Hi all im new to the site and gotta tell ya some people are kind and courtious
but some are not but the live chat thingy needs some order i popped in there one nite to ask a pretty simple question i thought and got Ragged to the high heavens because i fish a pay lake . Am i wrong to think this was a site were people shared info about all types of fishin ? If i am then my apologies to everyone. Just my 2 cents and gripe other than that this is a great site :D
Mark J
10-31-2005, 01:26 AM
Dizzy, you have to excuse some opinions of other members.
I dont fish pay lakes but I wont say I wouldnt fish one either.
If the Wildlfe Resource Commission for the great state of North Carolina says I can legally fish in a pay pond then I cant rightly talk trash about you fishing in one.
Just don't mention shocking on the lower Cape Fear, they really need their prozac then. It tends to bring any and all insecurities out in their own ability to fish on a playing field with with a few rocks on the infield. :D
Welcome and hang in there. you'll get all kinds of opinions thrown at you, you'll just have to throw yours out there too.
North Carolina is not an Arkansas or a Michigan or an Ohio.
I really dont think we have a pay pond problem here.
Bobpaul
10-31-2005, 01:56 AM
Opinions, insecurities, and prozac, why that's just shocking :p
Only you mark. Thanks for the laugh
