One of my least favorite fishing laws we have here in Pa. is the 2 rod law! I understand it on a Trout stream where I would only use 1 rod anyway or a small lake where you have to respect those around you but when I'm out on say the Allegheny River on my boat why can't I use 3 or 4 rods if I desire? I'm not out keeping fish as I practice mostly CPR. It's just that say I'm doing an all nighter on the pontoon and I want to toss out a couple 'gills for Flatheads, then that's all I can do! I would also like to maybe put out a rod with a nightcrawler and perhaps a doughball or fathead, etc. I guess I should shut up or the Fish Commission will start selling extra rod stamps!!!!

The same rule exhists in Jersey. The bizzare part is that in creeks like Racoon for example, wich is a good size creek, ya can use as many rods as ya want. Makes ya stop and scratch your head. LOL! I would go for the extra rod stamp idea. It exhists in other states.

Here in California (The land of stinking fishing Laws), we have that same law but, you may use two rods only if your fishing on a lake or rev.

But I fish the California Delta (a river) so that dosen't help me out none.

"I hate that law"!

 HERE IN MO. YOUR ALLOWED 2 POLES ALSO. UP UNTIL 3 YEARS AGO YOU COULD USE 3 THEN THEY CAME TO AN AGREEMENT WITH IL. NOW ITS 2 . IF I READ THE LAW RIGHT FOR MO. IT SAY IN ORDER TO USE MORE THAN 2 POLES YOU HAVE TO PUT NAME ,ADDR,AND PHONE NO.ON EXTRA POLES. KIND OF LIKE BANK LINES. THEY SAY THEN THIER NOT CONSIDERED ROD AND REELS. JUST DON'T MAKE SINCE TO ME. MYSELF I HATE THE LAW. BUT OUR HANDS ARE TIED.

Glad to say SC is more sensible. Shore based fishermen are limited to 2 rods per person. From a boat, you can use all you want.

Limiting the rods in a boat would really piss off the crappie fishermen, not to mention the bass fishermen. How do those guys cope? Are they allowed only one rod, or can you have multiples, just can't have more than one bait out at a time?

John, I think that we are allowed 3 rods here in Missouri at present time. They changed from 2 to 3 not to long ago. I could be wrong but I fish with three poles all the time.

Oklahoma allows 7 rods and reels, but it is hard to use that many at one time. Most catment limit themselves to two or three poles. It's just nice knowing the extra limits are there if we want them. I keep thinking the state is infringing on our rights, then read about the states with a two pole limit, or a limit of 33 hooks on a trotline and I know our 100 hook limit is pretty generous. Hang in there guys, it is just the world we live in.

Catchaser i agree with you but if we keep pushing for the extra rod, the Fish Commission who is extra money hungry, will start charging us for extra rod stamps. Its extremely upsetting.

We're allowed 3 UNLABELED poles in Missouri except on the Mississippi River where we can only have 2 UNLABELED poles.funny thing is on the Mississippi we can have 50 hooks and everywhere else it's 33 hooks.

The way I understand it we can have more poles if they're labeled with name and address as long as we don't exceed the hook limit.

Now for me I dont really care about the law I only use one rod and reel. I may take more with me expecially when bass fishing but I use one at a time trout I use one cat I use one Never have or ever will use 2 rods at one time. So I wouls say to me it dont stink.

Guess you guys wouldn't like it here in Oregon then. 1 pole 1 line unless you are at least 3 miles off the coast in the Pacific. Doesn't bother me a bit. When bank fishing with friends, if they gotta leave at all to relieve themself or whatever they better reel in thier line first too.

I think it stinks, and always will, untill someone can give me a reasonable explanation why it is a prudent thing to do.
I mean, why did they set a limit of two poles in the first place?

No doubt that the 2 rod law really stinks. I feel that someone could handle atleast three rods. Even if you had to pay for a stamp for a third rod I would probably go for it. I could not even imagine fishing with only one rod.

I feel your pain. Im in PA too. I'd be happy with 3 rods and could manage them all if I needed to.

Same in IL. I don't know really why they do this. I only have 2 rods, but still, i would like to have more to catch more.

Glad it's not like that here in NC. My dad and I usually use at least 5 pole's each when fishing off the bank by ourself's. If we're fishing near other people we give respect to them though and use like 1 or 2 pole's. I think it's a very stupid rule to only have 2 pole's per person. I hope it never happen's here!

Even thow I live by the 2 rod law here in Pa. I think the rule read's you can only use 2 rod's for game fish. Now my question is, is a catfish a game fish? I alway's though of it as a rough fish. Game fish would be Trout, Bass, Walleye, Muskie,s and so on. What do you guy's think???

I would have to agree with RIP. Here in Tennessee we do not have any regulations on the amount of rods we can use. I usually have 3-4 for myself and my wife has at least 2 out evrytime we go to the river or lake. If I were constained by the 2 rod law I would say it sucked too.

I go ahead and use up to 4 rods anyways. The spot that I fish would never see a game warden because you must cross through knee-deep mud. If I was to ever get a citation, it would be a muddy one.

i understand why when i go down to the creek and watch people trout fish in the pools with two rods and they gut hook hafe the time because they set the rods up on sticks, so for certain species such as trout, shad, and a few others i can ubderstand but catfishing, carp fishing and such species you really should be alowed more. its just hard to tell from a guy using corn for carp and bluegills from a guy using corn for trout.

i think the 3rd rod stamp would be great.

The thing that scares me about having a 3rd rod stamp is the fish commission may start thinking "maybe we should lower it to 1 rod per person and then charge for a stamp for each extra rod". I just know that when I'm sitting out on the river in the middle of the night and there isn't another fisherman to be found anywhere, I can't help but be upset about being able to use just 2 rods. I also know that there are times that the fish are really biting and 2 rods are more than enough for me to handle but I would like to be the one to determine that and not the fish commission. Time on the water is very valuable to me and I would just like to maximize my chances with 3 or 4 rods instead of 2. That's my humble opinion!

Responses like these cause our younger generation to think it's OK to break the law. I try to teach my kids moral values and not think it's OK to bend the rules/laws. JMO.

lol Rodpod, If the Pennsylvania game wardens are any thing like DH described, and he should know. O'l Blacky will be teaching the kids a lesson about how to pay a muddy fine. lol

Blacky, how about filling in some public profile information, there are no game wardens in here. lol

Guys, these are the same game wardens that tell me to "Kill those bastards!". Refering to the PABFC suggestion to not release flatheads.

I don't kill any flatheads, and I use 3 rods to catch most of them, sometimes 4. I have never seen a PFBC person at night except if there is a tournament or some holiday. Catfishing with 1 rod would not be nearly as fun.

I thought that when I lived in Wisconsin and having only 3 rods sucked, I couldn't imagine 2. Here in NC we can use as many as we want, so I use 5. Sometimes its too many if the bite is strong but its kind of fun hearing all those clickers screaming.

Unless you are the most patient person on Earth or have a whole lotta time on your hands, catfishing with one rod is.........pointless!!!!!

I honestly use 3 rods when catching flatheads. 2 rods on the bottom and 1 slpi float. It's a gamble I'm willing to take.

The two rod law really blows. I think that you should be able to fish with as many rods as you want.

Brett, don't count on the night thing. So far since the beginning of April of this year I've been checked three times. Twice at night! Once on the Allegheny and once on the Little Juniata. I'm starting to think I have a target painted on me somewhere. Anyway, its best to do what's legal, not what we think should be. Even if it is a STUPID law!

In Illinois 2 rods two hooks is mostly the rule. I am not against it. I can visualize some people using 6 or 7 rods or surrounding their boat with hooks. I can remember folks having bundles of bank lines in their boat running up and down the river running lines and filling their boat with fish. Those days are likely over for most of the rivers. Fishing is supposed to relaxing, if it’s too boring, play basketball. As our population grows so will the demands placed on lakes and rivers. Here in Illinois houses are going up around every remote river. I think it will be a single hook and a single pole one on these days along with all catch and release. I’m for anyone who breaks any kind of law of paying a price of some kind no matter how silly they think the law is.

Arkansas, has no such law. We can put out as many as we can handle at one time. Sometime I wish I was an octopus!!:)

With the PA state and Game commision falling apart at the seems, we should be able to buy an extra stamp. They are loosing money and jacking up liscenes. It sucks we can't use more than just 2 put they probally have there reasons.

The one rod law we have to live by in Calif really sucks for catfishing. Other types of fishing is not so bad because you have your rod in your hand most of the time. For catfishing though, the rod is generaly in the holder, (slip bobber fishing, my favorite is the exception). I would love to be abel to fish for crappie, bait or another species at the same time. It would sure make it alot more fun! As far as paying to use an extra rod, I have no problem with that. I do have a second rod stamp for lakes and resourvours but rarely fish them.
If the fish arn't biting, a hundred rods are not enough! If they are biting, two are too many!
