Hi Everyone,
Why don't all of us Hoosiers (or anyone else) get together for a gathering some time in September? It would be great to meet you all, and it's always a good idea to swap knowledge. It seems that the hot spot is the White River, south of Martinsville. I have read good reports of large flats by Williams Dam. Some of us don't have boats, so Williams would be nice because there is plenty of bank fishing or you can put a boat in if you'd like. They have camping spots there, and I'm pretty sure that includes powered sites for campers. I would be happy to figure out these details if people are interested. I would prefer a Saturday afternoon starting time, fishing all night untill Sunday morning. There have been posts talking about an Indiana gathering on the old site, but no progress was made. What do you say guys (and gals), is there any interest, or any input on a better fishing spot! Have a great day and good luck on the water!

I have no problem with the white river or maybe cataract. It would have to be in the first couple of weeks in September for me to be able to make it for sure. September is end of quarter at work and I usually have to work the last two weekends of the month. If for some reason I don't then I might be able to make it at the end of the month.
I also would be very interested if you get something together. Earl

I believe we are going to try and find a spot that everyone will be able to bank fish from. We also have a couple of the members that have boats as well. If we don't make it a bank fishing event then it shouldn't be a problem for us to take others out in the boats. I have a 3 seater and Typer and his buddy have boats as well. I think it would be more fun if we bank fish though so everyone is together.

Hey Joe, what do you think of that spot of your's down by Martinsville for the gathering? How does Saturday the 24th of September sound? Does that date work for everyone? We could meet mid afternoon and fish the rest of the night.

Glad to hear all of you can make it! All of your friends are more than welcome to come. We will be fishing the tail waters of the IPL Plant hot water discharge, about 5 miles north of Martinsville on SR67. Park on the east side of the road, just north of where SR67 and State Highway 39 West meet. We will be there at 2pm and stay throughout the night. You will see my black 4Runner, with the BOC logo on the back window, parked there. You will have to walk about 200 yards to get to the dam. Look for my blue East-Up Tent. This is a BYOB (that can mean "bait" or "beer" or both) event, so come prepared. I look forward to meeting everyone and catching some fish! Let me know if any of you have questions.

BYOB??? Bait? Oh wait you put beer, nevermind. I was about to say "Who needs bait?" J/K. See you all there!!

I'm gonna try and make this one guys. It's end of quarter at work this month which means that I usually have to work on the weekends. I'll try and see if I can work days that day and if not I'll be off by 11 pm and will head down there then. Let me know if anything changes. I don't want to go down there that late at night and not have anybody show up.

There is a huge beach like area there, with room for around 50 people. I would be very suprised if that many show up, but it would be a good time. Hope you can make it!

Sam brought a bait shop to my attention that is in Martinsville, which is a few miles from where we will be fishing. If anyone needs bait, here are the directions:
Judy's Bait Barn is located at 330 West Columbus Street in Martinsville. (765)349-7606
If you go into downtown Martinsville at the courthouse square, take Main Street north. Columbus street will be about 2 or 3 streets, turn right or west and go back three or four blocks. Its about the only thing back there and is in a residential area.

:) Haven't fished there in over 20 years. Used to walk around and cross on the railroad track to fish the other side. Sometime we waded across. Fished down there one time after a heavy rain and caught about 50 cats in about 2 hours! Them were the days...:-)

Rodpod, what is a washer tournemant.
I've got to say that the area around that dam has some good fishing, but, it is also known as a bad area to park.
There have been many cars and trucks broken into at that area, it is not a safe area to park, espically at night.
Believe me, i don't even fish there because its so bad.

We have plenty of time to find another spot. Does anyone have some suggestions?

Rodpod, what is a washer tournemant.
A game where you throw a metal slug 30 feet into a dirt pit with a hole in it. It's alot like horse shoes. There are about 120 people in the tournament and its a 20 dollar entry fee. So first place will pay out alot of money. A guy I work with is running it, so ive already entered.
I've heard the area around Williams Dam has been pretty good this year.
Could also go to Cataract. Bottom Feeders site had an outing there a few weeks back at the beach. Said there was plenty of room.
typer181
09-11-2005, 11:42 PM
I say we go for Williams Dam. There are camp sites there and a boat ramp, plus plenty of room for bank fishing. If everyone agrees on this site, I'll post all of the details. Does anyone have a preference on when we should get there? I won't be able to get down there until early afternoon on Saturday, the 24th of September. Sam, thanks for saving our cars!

Williams Dam is terrible. SNAGS!!!! I vote for anywhere but here. Just my two cents worth.
typer181
09-12-2005, 02:47 PM
I thought I taught you how to tie a break away rigging for those snags. A true fisherman would go to a good spot even if there were snags. Quit your whining! He's my (real) brother guys- I can give him heck. How about everyone else? Is there still interest in going to Williams Dam?
LilRyjoe04
09-12-2005, 02:56 PM
No, I'm not interested in going! :cursing: Hey Eric, why don't you tell everyone how many fish we caught last time we went there.... Lets see, we had five guys in our group and all we caught was a maybe one pound channel. That's productive. It was a complete waste of time. We went through around 25 to 30 hooks, it was terrible. There is a long hill that you have to haul all of your equipment down and up. I would much rather go somewhere else like Martinsville, I'm sure people have alarms on there cars and it is only two hundred yards away from where you park your vehicles. People have been having great luck at this location and I think we should go there. I haven't heard of anyone catching anything at Williams but snags, but it's up to you if you want to waste your time. ;)

You've got it Mr Catfish! We will have plenty of live bluegills, creek chubs, and bluegill. I want to leave the house by 12:30 in order to buy bait and to get down to the dam by 2pm. Glad to hear you can make it, sorry to hear about the woman. I know how you feel, and so do most of the guys on this board. Is Geoff coming? We should take the net down to the hole in lakeside that morning to get some bait fish. I'm sure we'll talk before then. See you soon!

Well so far we aren't looking to busy at work. Its possible that I might actually get Saturday off. I plan on coming regardless though. If I don't work I will probably try to get there at the same time as Eric and them. If not I will head over as soon as I'm off work. Hope to catch some big ones this weekend. I went to the Ohio River last weekend and didn't to to hot. We were spotting tons of fish but they just weren't biting. We were using live goldfish, frozen creekchubs, and live and dead shad. We ended up catching 2 channel cats about 5lbs. each.

The rain tonight and tomorrow should cause the river to rise a bit. There isn't any rain in the forecast for Saturday. Things are looking good! I am bringing a few buddies that are still wet behind the ears, let's show them how it's done. Keep an eye on this post, I will put up pictures from the gathering after this weekend. Look forward to meeting you all!

Hey guys! this is my new post name. I am looking forward to fishing tomorrow at the dam. I got bait today. Call me later to hang out.
Just so everyone is aware, Morgan county is currently under a flash flood warning. The river by where you guys are going to be fishing is flooded. Right now theres a water rescue being made on the other side of the dam, and they have closed down Blue Bluff road ( other side of the dam ) due to high water.
It might go down before the time you get out there, but its going to be high and muddy.
I'm not sure how thats going to affect fishing, just wanted to let everyone know. I'll get out and drive over around there tommorrow and let you know what things are looking like.
Just came from that part of the river. Water has gone down and is slightly high and very muddy.
I did see a few people back there that were fishing, so it is fishable.

Hey everyone,
I wanted to get these pics up quickly, my girl is making me go get some food, so I'll make it fast. A conservation officer showed up at the gathering and found one of my wet behind the ears buddies with a small pole I let him use didn't have a license. He then took him up to his patrol car and had my buddy speadem' over the trunk and told him that he was going to arrest him. Thankfully after making my friend load his pants, he elt him go with a $110 ticket. And we caught two small channels. I'll write more later.
Sounds like the CO was just doing his job. Its a shame it put a damper on everyones fun.
I didn't think they would be biting, but sometimes ya just never know.
You must of missed the action, i drove by there about 6:30 pm and therewere two full grown smokies and a CO pulled over where everyone parks.
Not sure what they were doing so i kept on driving by.
typer181
09-26-2005, 02:40 PM
I don't think anyone would be happy about getting a $110 ticket.
As far a revenues go, here are my numbers:
$4 million in revenues from licenses equate to approximately 267,000 licenced fisherman in Indiana, based on a $14.75 fee for each license. Now, if 1/3rd of people that were checked did not have a license, that would mean that about 80,000 people should have recieved a $110 ticket. This would create a revenue for the state totalling $8,800,000.00, which is more money than what was raised from license fees alone.

I've got an idea  !!! ,LOL
Why not get the guys that were there to pitch in and help him pay the fine it would only cost about 12.25 each to get it done. And the boy won't have to lie to anyone or borrow the money. It is the least that you guys could do for him. This is mearly a suggestion :)

I called my friend yesterday and told him that I would personally cover the cost of the ticket he received. I figure that was the least I could do, considering that I was the one that invited him, and loaned him my fishing pole. He declined my offer, stating "I knew I didn't have a license, so I shouldn't have been fishing". I think this clears the air on the subject. Whew! :D

Yah, it got a little hectic on the General Catfish thread. I'm sorry if I offended anyone, but it just seemed like everyone was taking shots at Eric(my brother) and I had to say something. There were a lot of things said and I just want to say Sorry. The situation is cleared up now and everything is taken care of and I think we should just let it go. Take Care and Good Luck Fishin!! ;)

Afternoon all....I'm new to the site, and I find all the posts here very informative. I was glad to hear Williams Dam is giving up some great-sized cats. I've only been there once, but I was going to take a couple work buddies there on October 8th. We have no boat, and I like fishing near the ramp. If anyone is there on 10/8, feel free to say hi. Until then, happy cattin'!

Nice to meet you Baitfish! I live in Camby, the next town east of Mooresville. I used to live in Martinsville, about a five minute drive from the dam on SR67. I like to fish Waverly and Henderson Ford accesses, but with the lack of rain it's been more famine than feast. Still, anytime catfishin' is a great time!

Hi and welcome to the BOC for the new members. I have gotten the chance to fish the Ohio River a lot this year and it is by far my favorite place to go. There are definitely tons of big fish in there and I have always had pretty good luck. We usually launch out of Lawrenceburg or Madison although we have used the ramp in Greenwood Kentucky several times as well.
