Hello,

Newbie here on the forums.I have fished up near Guntersville all my life and within 10 miles below the dam, but now I am living closer to Wheeler and was wondering what are some good spots to find cat. I have fished below the railroad track piers and caught smaller cat but even so not consitently. Have heard about Browns Ferry, but is there a hole there or do they just scatter out near it b/c of warm water? Hoping to find some places close to the Decatur Marina for convenience sake and not looking just for the monster cats, but maybe some for dinner. And short of going below the dams what are some good spots to catch skipjack? I've seen what looked like shad doing their thing in Ingalls harbor but I don't have a castnet and would rather use skip anyway. Thanks in advance.

Greg

Do you fish below the wheeler dam? I've heard that is some great fishing also, but kinda dangerous. Do you have any favorites areas on the top side of the dam?

Greg welcome to the BOC. Fishing below Wheeler Dam is like fishing
at any hydro dam unless the wind is blowing up river. When the wind
is blowing white caps up river and the swift water from the turbines
is going down river where they meet is the roughest fresh water I have
ever seen. If you fish Wheeler Dam you do not notice the wind because
the dam gives you protection. Watch down river for white caps also if
boats start to leave they might know something you don't. I have fished
Wheeler dam many times and only saw it bad a few times. But when
Wheeler is bad its very bad.

Below Wheeler is a little far for me, I'm east of Browns Ferry so most of my fishing will be from there east. Just not familiar with the Decatur Vicinity, not saying I don't fish below Wheeler, just not often.
