Missouri River gathering Sept 26th and 27th

Well here's the date for the Mo river gathering. Let us know if you can make it or not. As for boats I have no idea who's bringing theirs and who's fishing from the bank. People with boats only want so many people with them because the Mo can be dangerous if it's anything like other major rivers. So everyone give out a aye or nay on if you can make it or not.

It's kinda down the road a little bit, but I will sure try and be there! If someone lets me tag along in their boat, that's great. I can pay for gas/bait/whatever. If not, that's cool too. I can always find a bank spot too. As long as I've got a chair, a cooler, and my rods, I'm a happy guy! Just curious - where would the meet up/starting point be? Is there a place to camp? Is there fairly easy access to bank fishing near there for those without a boat? Sounds like a great time and I hope we can all make it!

I think it'll be in Ne City because we have some locals down there that should show up. And they may have open spots on their boats. Not to sure yet on the boating situation.

it would be in nebraska city at the ramp there is places to camp and fish there are showers and bathrooms there and as far as boats i have one and could probly take 2 people with me and that date should be good for me i will try to come and want to :big_smile:

she'll hold a few but it gets crowded with all the gear. i don't like to have more than 3 in the boat. i'd be happy to take a couple of guys out. maybe they can teach me a thing or two. heading out tonight up here for awhile. big rain this a.m. might be good around feeder creeks. hope to see you tomorrow night but i'm still looking for a partner. call me if you run into someone

Hey Guys a couple questions if you don't mind. first of all hows the bank fishing down there? because I'd really not like to drag my boat clear over there. and what kind of lodging are you all using? and when and where is the meet up at,I'm not familiar with that area at all! And as for bank axcess, is it easy to get to,I have a real bad back problems and wonder if a guy can drive right up to a fishing spot or if he has to hoof it and lug gear a ways(being pysically handicapped sucks after a being used to doing whatever whenever) and how long does everyone plan to stay,overnight or day and night,two days? Thanks guys,just looking for a few more details,for us that don't know the area.

bank fishin' is good.. we have pretty good camp grounds... and we have some ok hotels if you don't want to sleep outside with the wild animals.....
i will be there with my boat if anyone wants to ride along. i'm planing on going after some bait a day or two before for those who want to hitch a ride with me

nebraska city is just to far to drive and sit on the bank, not knowing anything about the area at all I would be lost.

ok.. id like to go to the river for the gathering... but as of now at this moment i started a new job today and tho i have asked i still have gotten no response on whether or not we will be working saturday and or sunday or if ill be on days or nights then..?? but if IF i dont have to work ill be there.

well we had a tournament sunday caught 2 flathead... 5 lbs total weight.. big fish was 12lb flathead.. it's the weather warm cold warm cold all summer... i may have to work saturday so that day might be out for me...
if you come bring some bluegills and shad guts just a tip:wink:

id have to say so.. not even the no shows that say their gonna show posted. I got tonight off i can go.. but if the locals aint goin and bites hasnt sounded good all year on the MO.. i think ill just hit up a lake maybe hit up the blue some where btwn seward and beatrice ive seen some really nice holes lately on the way home.

i was planning on beening there... i guess river fishin' sucks even tho there was a guy that caught a 50 lb flathead the other day that chris weighed... most the river fishin was good in the mid afternoon to evning earlier this summer... then it slowed down.. but most people that know anything about river fishin' knows the fall bite is among us.... but when its up and down like a roller coaster and is not stable and the weather and it changes almost every day the bite isn't going to be real good... it ran high for a while and i think thats why the bite was good... don't worry i got 3 dozen chubs/gillz guess i will go dump it in the big tank and save it for next weekends tournament........ maybe next year.. i gotta go to work today anyhow tomarrow will be a good day to be out

a friend of mine needed some help with some things to day after i got back from lincoln.. grabbed ssome of our bait out of the tank were out for about 2 hours and caught 7 flathead and 1 channel ... all the flats were about 5-10 lbs with the biggest being 15.. channel was about 8 1/2.. all were caught at the end of main street in neb city not bad for a quick trip.. heere is a pic of the 15

most my luck this year has been on the dikes that are cut out in the middle and on the bank in the fast water... but still haven't caught nothing big... god i hope next years fishin is better.. but we still got the fall bite to fish so maybe we will get to tangle with some brutes yet :wink:
also have you tried fishing the top side of the dikes thats been ok this year thats where i've caught alot of fish in the fall

Thats some pretty good action for 2 hours, I did manage a 40 pounder Monday morning, best flathead this year for me. Caught it at the head of a chute with a bullhead. Though I tried 2 other times last week with bullheads and caught nothing. Found a good spot to catch a bunch of small bullheads for bait. Circles work great on bullheads too as none swallowed the hook. :big_smile:

how do you hook them bullhead back by the tail or up closer to the head... i have heard of people cutting the stingers off before they use them... i just never had much luck with them

I ussually do hook them toward the back, I've also heard about cutting the stingers off but never really tried it. I've had ok luck with bullheads on rod & reel but better luck when I used them on bank lines for whatever reason. They sometimes were the only bait that would catch a flathead when the channels were hitting all the other baits.

I hook bullheads right behing the dorsal stinger...I've had some on the hook all nite and never died...I've tried all methods...cutting stingers dosn't seem to make any difference to me...

I've had really good luck with cutting the head and tail off as well
