Blue River gathering Aug 28th & 29th

If you think you might attend then send out and aye or nay. Let us know this is the dates for the Blue gathering. Lots of you guys out east live close by each other and can carpool together. You don't need much for an all night of sitting on a sandbar fishing.

As far I as I know for now, you can count me in! Not sure if I will come Fri. or Sat. night, but I will def. head down for one of those nights. I will prob. just bring my rods and reels, some bait, and some brewskies. A buddy of mine in Oklahoma ended up with my setlines somehow after our Republican River trip on Memorial Day weekend and I don't feel like making more. I will def. tag along with ya on a few runs though, John! Looking forward to it and hope some others can make it too. C'mon guys! Lets go tear up the Blue :big_smile:

When you come into Beatrice on Hwy 77 from Lincoln you go all the way thru town until you cross the bridge. Turn left and weave your way back around till you come back to the bridge. I'll be right there. I think we're going to put the tent up down on the river if there is a good spot.

well I was talking to Mark on the phone the other day and he said something about a chemical spill or leak into the blue...I found it on nebraska fishing forum...sounds like lots of fish died...anyone got any more info on this ????

I couldn't find anything in the G & P about the spill. Put up a link for me to read about it. I sent an email to my sis-in-law to stop by a bait shop to ask about that and the bite to see how they are doing. I'll keep you posted.

There is an ongoing investigation into the fish kill, but it looks like there will be somebody in some trouble over this one. We have had guys down there doing body counts, it was a significant kill from Hebron downstream for quite aways; mostly rough fish and catfish.

I just talked to my brother and he informed me that the Little Blue does not run thru Beatrice. It's the Big Blue that runs thru there. He said there has not been any fish killed in or around Beatrice it's all over in the Little Blue. So with that being said I think we are still good to go. Let me know what you guys think. As far as I know the Little and the Big blue do not join together until they get into Kansas.

Hey Guys! I was talking to my brother-in-law about this topic. He had heard on the TV it was in the North Loup river were the chemical kill was. Understanding it was a chemical that kills algae and it was contained in a small area that lead to the killing of the fish. Not for sure if this is legitimate or not, but I'm just rephrasing what I heard. Heard nothing on the Little Blue! Haven't checked any of the G&P threads on this yet!

There was a kill on the Loup as well as the Blue. There was a small article in the Lincoln paper yesterday about the one on the Loup, and yeah, it was algae or something like that that caused it. Said it mostly affected shad/rough fish. Didn't read the whole thing, just got a glance at it in the break room at work.

I hope to be there... work willing... was out on the blue the last 2 nights for about 4 hrs a night tops... 2 runners and a slow pull that wasnt productive either.. and then 7-8 lb channel... so their in there.. dont know when the bite happens but i was there 8-12 last night and 6-10 monday night... but im sure once i get the bait and the bite down they'll be some nice pics to come.. im with ya.. work willing ill be there.

I'm gonna try my best to be there, but I can't give a 100% "yes" just yet. I may take my old man to the Offutt Air Show that Sat. and may or may not drive back after the show. I'm kinda waiting on him to see what he wants to do for sure, but I am gonna try my hardest to be there! I really enjoy meeting and fishing with new people and I support this site 100%. If people are gonna make the effort to have a gathering - I'm gonna do what I can to make it. I'll let ya know a little further down the road John, but I'm really hoping to be there!!!

I say take I-80 to Lincoln then head south on Highway 77. That will take you straight to the city park where I will be. Cross over the bridge turn left and go around until you come back to the bridge. Hope to see you there

I WILL be there. I've already seen the schedule and I'm getting off at 4 on Friday so that is even better for the trip. I still need to go thru both hastings and lincoln for bait on Sat so I won't be there until sat mid afternoon. Just in time to make it an allnighter. I talked to Mark tonight and I think he is going to try but I doubt he'll run set lines because of his back being sore. Anyways time to see what's up with everyone else.

If it's too hot though, then we prob. won't go to the airshow. Don't feel like being around that crowd of people in 90 degree heat, but I'll fish in any weather :big_smile: So I guess it all depends on the weather. I would really like to be there, but I don't get to see my Dad as often as I would like so that takes 1st priority for me. Anyway, don't count me out just yet! I'll keep ya posted.

I understand prefectly. My dad might even show up for the weekend to see how we end up doing. I would take my dad to the air show but that's not something he likes. But if it was a round of golf he'd be all for it.

As far as the Blue River gathering, I should be able to go with no problems. The Mighty Mo gathering is the same weekend as the Nascar races in Kansas City and yes I'll be going to that for sure. Hey John! Let me know if ya want to hook up and go to Beatrice for the Blue River Gathering!

Well the river is at normal pool level so it should be a good weekend for fishing. It's about time for them to get into winter feeding I believe. Still maybe a little early but with the drawn out spawn it should be a good weekend. Hopefully they don't get inches of rain the night before we are supposed to show up. My prayers go out to Mark and his Father in law.. as for the gathering all looks well as of now for being able to make it.. the bait shop just got an order in and i got a few here at home John so all is looking well .. i just made a new batch of blood bait monday and hope itll be toughen up by this weekends gathering.. also am thinking of making another batch on Wednesday depending on if i can get the blood...but either way.. i got carp sides and guts ready to go along with shad sides worms froze chubs shiners small sunfish turkey liver and live gold fish.. well ive always been one for over doing the bait i like to try it all cuz i dont want to be out there and not have the bait thier biting on.. which lately has seemed to be the fact:confused2:. but as far as the weather goes... rain tue wed thur but nice for the weekend so they say so far...

Well, everything worked out in my favor :big_smile: Looks like I will be able to make it, but probably won't stay the night. I plan on leaving Lincoln by 4 and fishing till 11 or so. Gotta go to GI in the morning so I need to get back to Lincoln tonight. See everyone there! BTW...how do you get there? Is it the park to the east of HWY 77 south of town? I'll find it...If anyone sees me, flag me down. I have a red Sonoma (S10) with a catfish sticker in the back window.

well Matt , Rob and myself were there of course none of us found John..

John exactly how long did it take ya to float down that 3 and a 1/2 miles? we got there between 630-7 and went to Bear Creek at around 1030. figured if you were coming down river youd get out at the boat ramp so thats where we all set up and fished.. water sure was high and movin felt like i was fishin the MO.. especially since we got no bites on anything we thru out there but a nibble on shrimp. same at bear creek we were there till 130 couldnt believe nothing was biting on anything we threw at them.. its all good tho we had fun (and nothing was lost)... hopefully at the MO gathering there will be more then 3 of us that show and find each other.

I put in the river at 430 and we didn't get out of the water until 1130. You want to talk about being sore. My brother told me it was three miles:angry:. I figured we traveled about 12 to 15 miles. I'm sorry that I couldn't make it back before you all left. We ended up catching 2 flatties and 2 channies. For a total of 15 pounds. Lots of lines were broke and had one pole bent totally in half and couldn't get it out of the log jam for NOTHING. Oh well that's the way it goes.
My friend Jeff caught a 12 inch channie that he was going to keep and clean. But after something tried taking it off the stringer I put it on my biggest pole and try catching whatever it was that was trying. No luck just killed the bait. Sorry again that we couldn't meet up. But it was a pretty rough night, we actually thought we were on the wrong river at one point in time. Bad Deal what an erie feeling. Anyways I will post pictures when I get my personal computer back from the shop. Later to all.:ooooh:
