Any of y'all ever been huntin and heard what ya thought was a deer crashin thru the woods towards ya, but it was a dillo? In one day, three of the lil boogers came crashin around the stand i was in. One time I was so sure it was a deer, i already had the rifle stickin out the window of the tripod i was in........then a dumb ole armadillo walked out. Ive almost run over one on a 4wheeler, thing was no more than a foot from my tires, and the thing just sat there.

I almost ran over a skunk while mountain biking, man was that a scary (not stinky, TG) event for the two of us. but we dont have dillos here just squirrels. Lots and lots of squirrels. Their so noisy you dont hear the deer coming.

I have seen a few dead armordillos sqaushed on the side of the highways in Georgia but never seen a live one. I thought that I read somewhere is that you can eat them but I am not for sure, I think it would be like eating a opossum.

Armadllo's are half blind and half deaf, so sneakin up on them and catching them is a blast. Just watch out for those hind claws, they will rip you a new one if the ever connect.
Yes they are quit good on the grill(possum on the Half shell). I think that the leparosy thing is an old wise tale!!!

Armadillos's have a low body temperature therefore they are natural biological carriers of Leprosy. During the depression they were consumed by hungry citizens and thus Leprosy outbreaks became more prevalent, at that time they were called "Hoover Hogs" because they were being eaten.

Because of their habits as ground dwellers and prolific excavaters they can also cary Anthrax.

Please do not joke about eating them because they are natural carriers of deadly diseases.

If your pets bite, licks an armadillo or get its blood in its mouth and later licks you it can transfer disease to you.

I would appreciate a professional adding a comment on this because this subject deserves serious commentary.

I shot armadillos when younger with a 22 but now I can't believe yall want to shoot one with a real gun. you can kill one with a stick, backbone attached to shell, whap their back hard and they fall over. you can set in the woods and run one all over by tossin sm pebbles around, it will chase the sound thinkin it is a bug.
I have heard they carry leprosy, all I know, its white meat (like chicken) and taste like chicken when fried. oh, it sounds like chicken when frying.(ha)
they will jump up 5 or 6 ft high when startled!
been a long time but I remember it was good!

At the farm I kill every one I see, the reason... they are bad to dig in the yard. 12 ga works great.

Wife and I chased one last year on the ATV out in the pasture, it ran in a hole and I shot it with the pistol. I would like to seen someone out run that one. ;)

In TX, I was always told not to kill them for they kill rattle snakes.. this I've never witness.

The only thing more fun to shoot than a dillo is a house cat! At 100 yard or so a 22-250 is an amazing sight to behold, you don't have to clean'um and for me, season is open year round.

Dillo's are deffinately an annoyance, AND a tough little critter.

Shot one once with a 12 ga, 30 barrel, full choke, bird shot. from 15 foot away, he took the shot, rolled a couple of times, got up and kept on truckin. 5 Shots before he stopped running, 6th shot stopped the attempts at runnin.

I have the exact same thing happen with squirrels! If I wasn't so worried about spooking the deer I'd see what the ol' deer rifle could do to them.

"Armadillos are like the white man.It does not matter what you do,or how many you get rid of.They just keep on coming. Now the white man knows what we have put up with".I heard a southern born,American Indian truck driver make this statement, while discussing Armadillos.I have never heard anyone say it better.I still laugh every time that I think of it.peewee-williams

And like the white man, they are really spreading accross north america. I know this sounds crazy, but I've seen two road-killed armadillos just west of Nashville in the last couple of years. I've lived in this state for all of my thirty one years, and had never seen one outside of Florida/Texas/Alabama/Georgia until now.

A lot of my fellow Tennesseans think I'm BSing them, but I'm really not making this up..

Where I grew up in SE KS they are now somewhat common, where there were none before. I spent a lot of time in the woods hunting and trapping, and never encountered one growing up.

I hunt right on the Kansas/Oklahoma border and there are everywhere in the woods. I bowhunt and I took out 8 last year with a 100 grain broadhead. They take there time walking threw the woods, digging and making a lot of noise. You will here a few footsteps in the leaves and nothing for a couple of minutes. This will last for up to thirty minutes while they are walking by your stand. I get so tired of all the noise they make I'll stick them with a arrow. Helps build some confidence when that nice deer comes by your stand.

I wonder if the lack of Bears may be the reason that we now have Armadillos spreading.I remember reading of claims of 200 and even 300+ Bear hides a season, being sold by single hunters.Being that southern bear hides are at there best only for a very short time after they get their winter coat. The reason is that bears are very hard on their coats due to their habits and lifestyle. These claims were suppose to be from old fur buying records from some of the areas that now have Armadillos. There had to be a tremendous bear population for the earliest settlers to cope with. The Indians dealt with it by having the young males live in the fields with dogs, during the growing season. The Bears had to be reduced dramatically to be able to have crops or stock of any kind. The 1600s saw a tremendous hide trade with Europe. The only remains of Armadillos KILLED and eaten by animals that I have seen, were by Bears. They are killed and eaten by bears in the Okefenokee Swamp. From all the sign, they must be a staple prey for some Bears.I know that other predates must kill and eat a few. This is just my thoughts and there will never be a way to know if I am right or wrong.I have seen the job that a bear can do on a hog, corn fields and watermelon patches. This was in the 50s.I can never forget how much they left wasted and destroyed. peewee-williams

I don't know about master archer...I've shot at quite a few and missed alot also. When you have been sitting in a tree stand for 10 hours and haven't seen a deer in a couple of weeks I'll shoot about anything.:p
