I picked the blue...just cause it's closer for me to drive...I never fished either one..

i voted blue cuz its closer i aint never fished it and its down on votes.. as for a date sept 19-20 sounds fine to me.. but in all seriousness it dont matter where it is really if i can afford it when it comes up ill do what i can to get there. fish or no fish its all about having a good time, meetin new ppl, and learnin stuff.

I'm gonna vote Blue. Smaller water means potentially easier water to fish for us bank anglers. Plus, smaller water may make it easier to locate some big fish. I have heard good things about the Blue. I have fished it twice near Milford and like what I've seen so far...

Good job Frank. I voted the blue because it's easier to fish from the bank and if you fall in because you're to drunk you don't have to worry about drowning. Wish all the die hard Mo fans would try it. But I know how it is trying to get a mule to change his mind. LOL Just kidding guys I'm as stubborn as they come. Sept 19 and 20th sounds awful for me because I'm getting married the very next weekend. But hey you'all have a good time.

I just wannt go catch some cats  I voted Blue, but I'll go wherever...and if there's only a few people, well, that's what happened at B.O. last month and I still had a blast! At least the people who are serious about going can still meet each other and have a great time. 5 people or 50 I'm just glad to meet some guys who have the same interest as me cause the woman sure dosen't get it :smile2: I am gonna toss this out there though...What about the Elkhorn River? I have never fished it but know people who say there is some damn good fish in there. Just don't know whereabouts to access it though...Anyway, when we get this all figured out, I'll be there and hope to see everyone else there too!

Hopefully this gathering isn't another scenario of people " Talking the talk" but not "Walking the walk"! Guessing who ever shows up, shows up!! Lets see some more ideas and comments on this river excursion. Supprised the Republican River was out of the question!! Guessing that's too far for everybody to drive too for the eastern BOC' ers!! Not to be a A-Hole, but I like to see more invasive action on this Gathering!!

I would drive to the Republican in a minute! I ALWAYS have good luck on that river. My buddies and I fish it every Memorial weekend and always pull nice cats out of there. This year our biggest was 14 and smallest was 4. We got about 25 fish total, all Channels. 3 years ago we even got into some Wipers too so yeah...it's a good river to fish!

To make a long story short, I remember some big Flatheads being caught in the Late 70's. My father's friend had noodle-fished a 40lb. plus Flattie out of the Diversion Canal system near the little town of Guide Rock!! I saw the fish in a horse-tank on his farm. At a young age, all I could think and say was "Holy Chit"!! What a fish!! I remember the scars on his arm, clear up to his elbow!! Guessing noodling was legal back in those days and I can recall many huge catfish coming from this system because of the high water conditions in the Rep. River. My father and I fished this place for many years and have caught some nice cats to boot. Nothing huge, but great channels. I was there last year and fished the place with my mother, because she was egging me to go take her fishing. I was shocked at how the place looked. Kinda gave me a tear in the eye. Pretty rundown and the place wasn't kept up at all. Used to be a great campground there and many people camped and fished there from all around. I'm just throwing another possiblity in the mix for places to fish, and I would like some more diversity in River choices.

Any more takers?
Mark

I'm glad you mentioned that Mark. My dad and his buddies used to take us down there every weekend to Guide Rock. I remember waking up in the middle of the night and then watchin our tents go down river because it rained so hard. My dad almost got fired from his job because he lost his keys and one of them was his garage key at the telephone company. If you want to go to guide rock I'm down. I like all the little rivers that you can walk. Not a big fan of the MO because I can't run set lines by walking it. Anyways just wanted to say nice post. My dad went down there to our old spot and said the farmer fenced off all access to the river where we used to drive in. So if we're going someone needs to find a spot to access the river from. My old spot is gone. But not forgotten. By the way how's your father in law?

Just a short note saying the Father-In-Law is doing well John. Thanks for the concern!! He's a tough Ol' Brute. Gotta hand it too him!! Has his up and downs, to be expected.

Thanks.
Mark.

If you guys are interested in fishin the Republican, there is a pretty good access point west of Alma, south of Orleans. There is a bridge there (can't remember the HWY #) we usually just park off on the shoulder and if the water is low enough, you can easily walk the river and look for holes. I also have a few other good spots. If you want, PM me and I'll tell ya how to get there. They are all on Corps. of Engineers land so they are public.

That means we can get drunk and not worry about the Sheriff. Sweet I'm in that's closer than guide rock. Still a trip but that might be better than going to Beatrice. Any car bodies down around that area. In Guide Rock the canal used to be lined with car bodies and BIG fish.

There is a bend in the river near where we camp that is loaded with car bodies for a good 200 - 300 yards or so. It's deep and the current is usually pretty fast there so it can be kinda hard to fish, but it is possible. A few years ago when the water was low we pulled a 18lb. Channel out of there. Just have to wear waders and be careful not to cut yourself. We actually catch alot of Wiper around that area. I think they like the faster current. I would really like to make it back down there this year. Seems like I am always busy lately...If you're in Grant, I have had good luck at Sutherland near the powerplant and also Lake Ogallala and the canal to Paxton also hold some really nice cats. People always fish that canal for trout, not cats. My buddy and I have caught some pretty nice ones out of there using Alewife and Crawdads, and I saw a guy pull a channel out of Lake Ogallala near the hydroplant that was pushing 25lbs. a few years ago.

I stopped at the bait shop right there at the damn two weeks ago and saw a picture of a 30 plus lber that was caught from the plant outlet. I'd fish it but I don't have a net long enough to get anything up out of the water.
I'm taking the kids up to the Platte next weekend and we're going to try a night of set lines and see how they work out. The river is way up so hopefully we can get lucky. The canal don't look like it's full enough to hold any fish. Maybe I should try the little lake where it dumps in to the canal. Thanks for the info.
Oh yeah a 10 year kid caught a 21 pound Channie out of Sutherland on a snoopy pole. But that's how we all get addicted right?

I usually don't like to spend time fishing a place where I can't eat the fish. The muddy crappy mo is out of the question for me. Omaha occasionally dumps raw sewage in the MO and anywhere south is a bad idea. The republican river sounds interesting. Last fall I did some work at FT Riley and visited Milford Lake. The water was pretty clean so I figure the river upstream must be clean.

I went down to Benkelman to see what the republican looked like way out here. Yikes not much to speak of except a little creek 5 foot wide and knee deep. Oh well I'm actually going to try and run some set lines on the Platte in Ogallala this coming up weekend. With the water up like it is we just might get lucky. I'll let you all know how we do.
