I don't work Fridays, the woman is out of town this weekend, and apparently they're hitting good at Wildwood and Bluestem so I've got all weekend to fish! we'll see what happens

Took my youngest son and his friend fishing on the 5th. It was a pretty good day. Patrick was reeling in a bluegill to only get it stripped off by a big bass. Of course he didn't know what to do because it's his first time fishing. But the highlight of the day is the 8 lber that I helped Ryan reel in. See attached photos. He can't smile because the fish is weighing to much and he's probably a little nervous since he's never held a catfish before.
Fun time for all who attended.:big_smile::big_smile:
good to see your fish count is going up........it's always nice to take the kids fishing, I don't know who likes it more them or us

And to think this pond is small enough that you can cast across it. And I'm not kidding in the least bit. Sometimes I find myself casting to far at night when I can't see and it ends up in the cattails on the other side. LOL
Anyways I don't really see a need to go to a big lake when I can catch master anglers out of this one. AND it's only 10 minutes from the house. One of these days I'm taking my two man boat out on it and I'm going to drop and anchor just to see how deep it is.

Enjoy it while it lasts, Squire! My fishin' buddies are my grandchildren now. What fun, but a lot of work. I can't really relax when i take more then one at a time fishing. My son is my serious fishing buddy. My wife comes along when she is in the mood, but it's like fishing with one of the little grandkids. I do all of the work. lol. Say, Skewz, getting any fish lately? I haven't fished for four days. I'm getting withdrawals. I went into hospital Monday for hernia operation on my stomach. :angry:i feel like someone stuck a pitchfork in my guts and left it there. The wife won't let me out of the house till I heal. It aint so bad. I watch the morning news, then Regis show, Jeopardy, and The Price Is Right. Sometimes I catch Martha Stewart. Most of the time I dose off because of the pain meds. Then, the soaps come on. I am so upset with what is going on on All My Children...

Yeah my fiance with us on Sunday, and I asked her if she had a good time and she said it was relaxing. I said for who I didn't get to sit down the whole time we were out there. Oh well Ryan and Patrick had fun and that's what counts. Friday night I'm hitting it all night long for the first time. I'm hoping to come out of there with a 25 pounder I know they're are in there. At least I hope they are.

we didn't get much for the tourney. thats for sure. you might have most weight if your telling the truth because nobody caught much
skawez
07-18-2009, 01:46 PM
it dont take but one to have the MOST WEIGHT as long as its a big one..but more then one nice one sure helps alot dont it. keep at it you guys keep them lines tight and the hooks full..
well we just got back from the tourney..we got 4th place...had a blast wish more ppl would have showed up...there was one problem that everybody had and that was keeping the fish alive...I got my biggest fish on the first day actually with in a half hour after the start...well he died and that was that....
and yea I'm braggin about 4th place like Jackie Moon and the tropics:smile2:
skawez
07-19-2009, 07:47 PM
with out a boat/live well its hard to keep fish especially nice ones alive for and extended periods in this weather.. even a stringer with 10' of rope wont keep them more then a day day and a half.
Atleast you placed , had fun, and caught fish~!!! Congrats:big_smile:

Went to the Platte last night till about 3 this morning. Put out 9 lines and came back in with 7 fish. Used live gillies and had pretty good luck for the most part. I tried chicken livers and wicked sticky on R & R in between checking the lines but no luck. Oh well they sure loved the gillies. Didn't keep anything because I was to cold and tired when I came in and didn't feel like cleaning the fish. They were in between 2 - 5 pounds and all were flatheads.

Where on the lake did you get em? I live like 2 minutes from there and fish it quite often, but the biggest cat I've managed out of there was a 4lbr. (also on liver) I was out there a week or so ago and the whole damn lake was full of weeds. I hooked up with a couple fish but when I got them to the weeds One of em got tangled up and I had to break him off and another one came unhooked when I was pullin him through the weeds. But, on the plus side, I did catch a couple nice bass. One went 17 inches and I'm guessing close to 4lbs.

Well, I fished B.O. the last 2 nights. Last night I fished from 7pm - 4am. Fished with white perch and goldfish and lost one and had one more good bite. Not a terrible night because I usually don't even get a bite there, but 9 hours of fishing with no fish is a long night. Those 2 bites were enough to make me head back out there again this evening, even after only getting 3 hours of sleep last night because I just knew there was fish there and it FINALLY paid off!!! Only had lines in the water for about an hour when this pig slammed my 'gill. 36 inches long and too big for my scale but I'm guessing between 20-25lbs. Anyway, it shattered my PB of 9lbs and is the biggest cat I've ever landed on rod and reel. I still can't believe it! My buddy also caught one that was right around 8lbs shortly after that, also on a live gill. Anyway, I had an AWESOME night!!! Here's a pic...

Nope, I didn't measure the girth. I actually didn't even think about doing that. I was kind of in shock  I have tried for 10 years or so to get one like that so I was pretty excited. Just wanted to get a measurement and get it back in the water. But it was pretty damn thick if you ask me. I know it was at least every bit of 25lbs. maybe more....
