I am brand new to BOC and wanted to introduce myself. From what I've seen this looks like a great site! I've learned a good deal already.
I live in Parkville, MO and fish the Missouri river around the KC area quite a bit. I also fish Perry lake and Smithville lake some as well.
I have been on the river several times already this year and have not caught anything of significance yet except for a sturgeon that was about
3 to 4 ft. long.
I look forward to conversing with you all in the future.

Hey Bruiser,
Sorry to hear you where down. Do you snag around Alton Dam or Chain of Rocks, I need to get out their snaggin myself(stir crazy). May work some time in to go this weekend.
Blue Bruiser

Both the Dam and The Rocks. Went today for 3 hours. 3 hours 3 snaggers and not 1 fish. Now that odds. LOL

I was on the river most of the day today and got skunked. I fished
a 4 or 5 mile strech from north of Parkville down to below riverside. Using
shad and carp for bait. The river is up 3 or 4 feet from when I was on there 2 weeks ago and the water temp is 4 degrees cooler. I did not see any fish in any of the scour holes I looked at so I spent most of my time on the flats and tried in the channel for a bit as well. I did not even get a bit all day.

Lincoln, are you putting in at parkville ramp?. If so are you running up or down river?
If you run up river from the ramp the first and second dike you find on the right side are awesome dikes early spring. Seemed like they shut down for the summer though. I use to fish that stretch all the time when I lived in parkville 2 years ago. I guess I am gettin back to chasin blues now cuz the Spoonbill scene is dead.

03-26-2006, 10:44 PM
Thanks for the info Chris. I did try one of those dikes today but
no luck. I have been putting in at river front park by Harra's casino and making the trek all the way up to Parkville as that is the only ramp
I am able to put in at with the river so low. I'll keep those in mind as the spring progesses though.

Well, I had my heart broke yesterday on the river. I had my trophy on, had him up to the boat and on top of the water and stuck the net down to grab him and the leader line broke(you can imagne the explitives that came out of my mouth). I had been experimenting with different leader
lines. That was one heck of a hard lesson to learn, I hate learning lessons the hard way. I got a real good look at him, I would have put him in the
40 lb range. I still can't get over it. That would have been my personnal
best to date. Oh well, I promise you, that is one mistake I shall not make again.

A couple of years ago I got one that was over 48" long to the side of the boat. I estimated the size at somewhere between 75 and 90lbs. My leader broke and the fish remained there a moment before swimming off. If I would have had a net I would have landed her easy(I have one now). I didn't fish for two weeks moaning and groaning over not pulling my digital camera out of the top of my tackle box and snapping a picture while she was at the side of the boat. I usually just grab em by the jaw and pull them in but I couln't quite reach her. Most likely I will never have a fish like that on again but I will never forget it. My only regret is not having the picture because the fish would have went back in reguardless. I catch a lot of fish in the 25 to 45lb range but this fish was something special........I'll never get over it. See ya on the water!

Been a quest for a few months. Just sign up with the BOC the other day. Really a cool web site. What is the fishing report for the Missouri river around the Parkville and or the Farley area. Is the water to cold yet for flatheads? I am working in Des Moines and the channels are hitting but the flats are not yet on the Des Moines River. I live north of K.C. and get home on weekends and am thinking on going to the Missouri River. Thanks

Welcome to the BOC. My brother just moved out to MO last month from California. He says besides the close calls with some tornados, he loves it.
I think I might have to come out there some time and see what the fuss is all about.
