Bigfatcat, I think what you have caught is a (White catfish)

Do a search and read all about it.;)

White catfish have a sharper shaped belly fin.The fish he is holding seems to have a rounded fin, more like the bullhead. Also the tail of the white cat has a little more cut in the tail, similar to a channel cat where his fish has more of a rounded cut in the tail :D

OK Guys,Check this pictuer out.

The first tail fin is a White cat,
The second tail fin is the one that Bigfatcat caught,
And the last tail fin is a Black Bullhead.
Which ones look more alike?

the record for a white catfish is only 18 some lbs.....the one this guy is holding looks a bit heavier plus you can't really see the fork in it's tail or the belly. But I would say Bullhead.

Danny Threerivers, I do believe you're right. It's a WALYPOG! At least I think it is. Course I ain't never seen no white cat. We don't have none of them down here in Texas. We got a lot of other white stuff though., like horses, cows, pigs and chickens and stuff like that. I thought white things are supposed to be white. So what's up with a white catfish that don't have enough sense to be the right color? Is it some kind of disguise or something? Real bullheads are supposed to be yellow or black., I don't think there is a white bullhead. If a black one crosses your path, will you have bad luck?

On the other hand, the first fish has a tail a lot like the second fish and the second fish has a head a lot like the first fish. Also the body of the second fish is a lot like the first fish. The left eye of the first fish looks just the right eye of the second fish and vise-versa. The fins look the same too. I didn't get a good look at the butt, so I can't say much about that. Well, I guess I could, but I don't want to. That's how dogs tell each other apart, only they have to sniff it.

If you took each fish and cut them in three pieces and put salt and pepper on them and mixed them up in a bowl of cornmeal, it would be real hard to tell them apart. If you fry it, a piece of the first fish would taste a lot like a piece of the second fish, unless you try to eat the head of the second fish and the tail of the first fish. Or the head of the first fish and the tail of the second fish. Then they might not taste the same.

If you had three fish and ate one and gave one to your cat, how many fish would you have left? If you went fishing and didn't catch any fish, how many would you have then and what would you have for supper? If white catfish are not white, then how do you know what they are?

If you got this far, then you know I can talk without end about things I know absolutely nothing about, kind of like a politician. I only stop when I begin to bore myself. As Poppie mentioned before, I studied under Professor Irwin Cory.

I believe your fish to be a Prespawn Channell cat. :p
The Bullheads I've caught (1000's) IMO have but one purpose Flatty bait! :D

I don't think either are bullheads. The tails are not intact well enough to go by them. If I had to say I think the first might be an exotic by the way the barbels and the lateral line look and the second is a bull channel.

Living in New Jersey and having caught thousands through the years Its 100% white catfish and being it was caught in Virginy just make even more positive. Sorry bout digging up old posts just trying to see if anything that had valuable info was lost in time LOL

Bullhead, It does not have a forked tail like a white cat does.

Honestly, It's not bullhead because I have caught tons of bullhead, it's not look like that pic as bullhead, I would say it's channel. because " TAIL FIN". and color too. there's yellow bullhead, black bullhead, and brown bullhead. This pic is not look like as bullhead again.

a quick look at the tail will tell you its not a bullhead. it doesnt look like a channel to me because Iv never seen one that small without spots on it. I would have to jump on the white catfish bandwagon. by the way how can you tell its not a small blue? (iv never seen a small blue so I dont know what they look like)

jerseycat9

white cats have large heads compaired to there bodys also. that is another way to tell them apart from blues and channels

looking at the second pic, id say small channel...but looking at the first, the tail dont look right for a channel. and we dont have bull heads here where i am, just nasty ol mudcat or polywogs as we sometimes call em. so im gonna agree with the bowfin, wolypog, or hey, it could even be a largemouth bass:roll_eyes:

boys if you will stick a 12/0 hook in its tail let it go in a logjam in a short while it will grow up and you will plainly see its a flathead catfish.
