Smithville Lake in Missouri?

Anyone have any tips about Smithville, such as good locations to fish, etc.
Fished it several times last spring/summer without a lot of luck. I fished the King Road/Honker Cove area, off some points and tried the necks a time or two.

There are several people on here that fish it.Weather is kinda crappie now,the talk will heat up in a few weeks again.
You need to get a little more specific in your questions.
There are different areas that produce different species at different times with different methods.

Pay attention to cook about smithville. He catches more fish by accident there than a lot of guys catch trying real hard.--paddle:0a17:

I'd be interested in some cat fishing at Smithville as well.
I've always had good luck with the crappie there but not the catfish.
I tried 3 or 4 times there last spring on the north end of the lake but
did not have any luck. I have seen a couple of bigs ones at the boat
ramp that other guys had caught though, so I know they are in there
some where.

Got out for an hour today,been almost 10 days:mad: ,got 3 keeper crappie,2 dinks,and a bonus bluegill.Just let the wind blow a jig around.Was pretty chill by the water.Felt good to be out and saw a flock of about 30 turkeys on the way there,couple of strutters.:)

I'm more of a daytime guy,they are catchable but deeper.
They will be electroshocking this tue and thur nite and also next tue/thur,quite a show,there are some real pigs in there,numbers are getting better.

I am going to head out to Smithville Saturday, I've heard the channel
cat are starting to heat up there. Anyone have any suggestions on exactly where I should concentrate my efforts?

Boat or bank?I'd use shad,little or no weight,enterances to coves.A good rain tonight may change things.Will post more later.

Thanks Jon. I'll be in a boat(I have a 16' deep V) and using shad and wicked sticky dip bait. I hope the rain doesn't foul things up to much.

The more rain the better. Then just fish a creek where it dumps into the lake. Them cats should really like a nice warm rain.

I have no boat, so all my fishing is going to be from the bank. Anyone have any sugestions for the lake? Which areas are best? Any good places near the dam?

Well, we did not get all that much rain here and it doesn't look like
we are going to get anymore, looks like Smithville may have gotten more
than us. Hopfully it will improve the fishing some. I am going to go ahead
and take the day off tomorrow and go. I'll report on how I did.

What methods do you use there?

It was way to windy on Friday to be on the lake so I called it off.
Went to Perry yesterday and did pretty good, boated 7 channel.

Depends on conditions,when they are letting out a lot of water in the summer,(at least 250-500 cfm)I like to target flatheads right in the spillway along the wall.Use 1 oz. jigs with a 4-5 inch grub or sassyshad.Most other times I will walk down to where the creek enters.

I gonna try the dam fri. night for some Walleye and probably throw out some live bait for whatever wants to bite. Hey Cook when you say where the creek enters, where exactly are you talking about?

At the spillway of the dam.If you follow it west(downstream) on the south side(main parking lot)
past the soccer fields.
About 500 yards another creek enters and you can't go any further
