Well gang..... heading out today go down to the lower end of the state and visit wih Gary "Tofish".
Squaw Lake on the Colorado River Should nice with weather in the mid 80's and 60's at night.....Got some fresh Mack, and some crawlers for getting some gills for bait..... Gary sould bring some chicken livers to round out the bait selection, as I've got some "stink" other package bait to try.....Haven"t been down that way since June of last year when I got my last good flathead...
Here is a pick of my brother Al holding a "look alike" flat that we caught at Gary's secret spot...... Did the CPR with this fish...."Look alike" means it is like me....."short and fat":cool2:

Have fun man. I hope they wake up for you. I wish this wind would stop swapping around North to south and back.

damian, found some (new to me water) off the river i think you'd like. if your nice now, LOL and don't wait to long to reply, might tell you where. think it's gonna be a good night spot for flats.

ment with ray yesterday afternoon at squaw lake down here on colorado river. just sat around and caught up on the visiting and such for a few hrs. then went out and fished. ray had a few bites, but that was all. we didn't seriously fish, but just enjoyed and i showed him some new water.
spent the night, got up this morning and made breakfast. was a different one for him. did up tatoe tots, then did scrabbled eggs and mixed in some bbq'd spareribs that i'd put through blender. (as i've mentioned, just had teeth all pulled last thursday, so can't eat solids good.) he just looked, but then gobbled everything down.
came back home as was supposed to start dive chamber therapy again today, and darn tech screwed up and double booked. start tomorrow. will go back down and spend thur and fri nights with ray again. have to come in for therapy in afternoons, but can do that. just have to figure meals for me. :tounge_out:.
weather is nice down here. gentle breeze so far. cool at night, and maybe 90 during day today.
can't wait until the blythe gathering.

Well hope you had fun. That storm front moved out yesterday and I figured last night would be the night but... just one small flat and a turtle. Didnt' do any moving around stayed in the same drainage ditch spot. Oh and I caught a dock. It wasn't there when I went to sleep but it was there when I woke up lol.

Well gang... I think that I have found out the connection to my "catching problem"......ya see, my "power pro" braid sings a lot when I use it in the river..... I mean it has quite a humm to it as the river is running past the boat..... I try keep things quiet in the boat.. like just open beer cans and un-zip patato chip real quiet like..... but I'm sure that the line is the problem..... I mean even a anchol line attached to the boat can develop a hum in my aluminum boat....
So I had to get some new line to try out next time down to the river...
more to follow....

Well gilmafam let me tell you, I've heard that hum before. I think I've heard that hum from mono alot more than I've heard it from braid. I dont' think it's your problem but I encourage you to do the experiment and let us know. I havn't been doing very good at all on this week that I have free. I've fished almost every night and only have 1 turtle and 1 flat. I felt that maybe my talapia bait was the problem so I decided to only use gills and goldfish..... well geuss what!?! Another low front came in so catching gills became near impossible and b&b was out of goldfish! It was too late to drive to palo verde to get some. After searching all day I caught one decent gill and one 2 incher.

Chris... good to hear from you...The problem is the surface tension of the braid line catching the current of the water as it is rushing by... mono is almost noise free..... but the water was really moving down at the lower end of the Colorado river... .lots of movement .. could really see the water clouded up in certain spots... Gary (a local) said he noticed the same...
Not sure if you have a boat as of yet, but the water just below the wier north of Blythe is the swiftest of flowing water on the lower Colorado.
Here are a couple of pics of the wind clouds high in the sky the day before ....the thursday night thunderstrorm that tore off my bimini top from my boat... I was fishing a blue gill hole and the bank of dark clouds started to get thicker, and get into a thick line, and then a "rumble" of thunder for almost 20 seconds as more of the storm thickened and started to drop sheets of water.... should have seen all the "bass boys" heading it back to the launch ramps ... it was really dark in the last afternoon...., and no windshield wipers .(like me)....LOL
also... a shot of the thursday night moon prior to the friday storm...

yea... the wind blowed real hard last night....(here at the beach)... even right now it is kicken arce.....
So here are some of the scenic pics that I thought that you guys might like to see....
The first one is the hot tubs just off the innerstate "fishing hole" got the canal in the second pic, which shows the shade of the innerstate .... (which I have not used) but it show the nice spot to break up the time while driving the LONG way to Yuma....:ooooh:
The last pic is the 4th ave bridge going south from Yuma and all the access that is there waiting to be used..... (got to have the Indian permit for that) .....
Never wanted to try it..... better places 20 miles up the river...:cool2:.

The beginning of the week I was out there and braving the wind. Past few days though I was mostly in the bathroom. The flu held me down real bad. Today is my first day with no headache. Considering getting out and doing some fishing but I'm worried about the curse. It seems everytime I go out fishing another low front comes through, the wind picks up, the temps drop. THat didn't stop me so I was hit with the flu.... Which one of you guys hit me with the voodoo?

Well gang here is a couple more pics on the way down to "Squaw lake" on the Colorado river..... got to have an Inidan permit to hit em... but the main canal was a nice fishing adventure 20 years ago with an ole buddy of mine that has departed to the "happy fishing grounds"..... Still some good looking water to hit at night or during the day time...Of course "Tofish" probably has better "local spots" .... but I took these pics as I was traveling to squaw.
Ps...one is the All American canal.... call it the cross over from south to north.... with its new cement lining.... Yuck... liked the ole natural look.

i agree the AA was much better looking before.
