Hello, I'm new to catfishing and i live in Clara City, I've heard of some good fishing by the dam by Watson. But other than that I haven't heard much. Any advice for a newbie like me would be much appreciated. I have a ugly stick catfish rod wit a shakspear tidewater baitcaster on it. So if anyone from MN has any spots they would like to share that would be nice.

First of all welcome to the BOC, you are in one of the best areas to catch catfish in Minn. cut bait works best Ihave found in that river. try fishing the outside bends of the river.Action should be hot and heavy.

The Sauk River chain of lakes by Cold Spring has abundant channel cats.

Best thing is to get your self a Sportman's Connection, actually two, book that covers Minn. from the Dakota border to the Wisc. border at your lattitude.
I have four of them and they are getting more expensive but it is a quick way to get an idea of what is where.

I am personally going to give Lake Carnelian by Kimball a try because in a test netting operation there one of the fish netted was a Yellow Bullhead in the 25-29 inch range.
Sounds like a record fish to me.

Oh yes, hello gents, nice site they have here.
Bobby

Hi Cody- Welcome to the BOC. You live fairly close to Granite Falls, have you ever fishing the Minnesota River there? I use to fish the county park that is on the south end of town almost every weekend right off shore and the catching was good. I wouldn't eat anything out of the river there if that's what you are after but you should have some luck there. Hopefully this helps good luck. - Catfisher77

Cody- i just remembered another spot i use to go to that is close to you, Kandiyohi Lake south of Willmar holds some monster channels and pigs for Flat heads. I wish i still had some of the pictures we took of the fish that come out of that lake. Here you can also fish right of shore, if you have access to some small bullheads they are liked very much by the flat heads. Make sure to check with the dnr if you can use bullheads first, bullheads can be used on the river but im not sure if they can be used in this lake. if not try to finding some creek chubs.
