Buckeye Lake in ohio

Do any of you central ohio fishermen hit buckeye early in the year? If so, what seems to be the best method to get into some big channels?

Have not hit it yet Josh, but will soon. Never have any luck out there after alot of rain for some reason.

does anyone know of any good spots here at this lake they would like to tell me about im thinking about going fishing here this year and i would like to know if it is also easy to get to the fishing spots bye boat or on bank

Well I just got back from taking my 2 kids with me out on the boat. We got there around 6:30pm and fished till about 1:30am. Didn't wanna ruin em for life out in the cold fishing, so I came back earlier than my normal daybreak time. However I had a blast with em! We got several hits and our bait stolen all night, mostly ripping out the gut pocket on the shad I was using. We did end up catching one nice 5 lb channel. I think we would've caught more if we stayed but the youngens were starting to get cold.

Plan on hitting it again tomorrow during the day, let you know how it goes!

The kids and I had another great day, caught 5 channels and several other bites that were biting short and stealing the bait. Hope the weather clears up for another good day of fishing soon! I hope you all get a chance to get out. FYI, they're catching loads of crappie by the north shore right now.

Wow, that wind was crazy!!! Caught 2 in the first 10 minutes of fishing. 2.5 and 3lbs. Then the wind picked up heavily and the fishing slowed down.

Either Picnic point (my preference) or Liebs. I like Picnic point tho in that little pond area. Ill probably be there about 8ish maybe earlier. Depends on weather tho I dont want to take the little one out if its too cold. Lets see how things get going this week but Im game for it.

Josh I dont know if Im going to make it but if you do go picnic point is off of 79 and Liebs is Liebs Im sure youve been to both just may not know it.

i hit leibs island last week and used chicken liver and night crawler i got some good cats but mostly stripers

I almost went liebs the other day. And you aren't kidding about those stripers. I couldn't get much cats too hit, but the stipers were definitely active.

Just got back from Buckeye. It was a great day, got several carp bowfishing and my son got a 10.10 lb. 30" carp. He was on fire today. I seen people catching fish today, they were near picnic point. By the way stay away from jim's bait store. The people there are idiots. I went by to get some things and they had no worms and 5 minnows and 3 containers of meal worms and told us they are stocked. The female that was there didn't have a clue what so ever. Must be a local buckeye laker.

Well if you go with me youll definatly have no luck LOL. Did you fish in the pond part or the main lake? I usually get most of my hits in the pond part. Thats cool tho, I will be going out tomorrow just havnt figured out where either Alum, Buckeye or Dillon is my 3 choices. I dont like Hoover that much all I get there is snags and no bites.

The only fish I catch in the pond part is bullheads. Had some good hits on shad, but hook ups.

Alright, I am up for fishing tomorrow, well today. LMAO I need some sleep but will meet around noon or so if anyone wants to hook up. Hopefully I can fish late but never know with work. I have some livers, not sure if I have any shad left, have to check deep freeze. But definatly none from this year.

Well, I am up and moving around. I am leaving here in about an hour or so to run my closing package last night to the office. Then I will head to Buckeye Lake to fish for as long as possible. Until I get tired, they quit biting, or work calls.

now I know Buckeye lake is not known for Flat Heads........but some have been caught out of there.........does anyone here ever fish the lake targeting Flatties?? I know everytime i go out to Buckeye i take my lighter rigs and a couple of tubs of liver.......I have never thrown out a live bait, and I just wonder if we might be missing out on something??

Aaron if I have a lite rig and catch some Gills Ill either cut them up or put them out there whole who knows you might catch the biggun of Buckeye Lake LOL. But its worth a try anyhow, being that Im fishing from shore it makes it a little harder

Ryan, sorry I did not make it out there. Andy called and wanted to fish, I had to head back south to get him. We were out of Shad also, so we decided to hit Deer Creek, did not have any luck.

We do have pleanty of frozen shad now though so have extra bait when we hook up.

i went to leibs wendsday and was there 5 minutes and got rained out thursday i went behind leibs and had no luck. the fish were either berely biting and wasnt big enough to set the hook or biting hard and just leaving
tomarow i am heading out to one of my secret spots on buckeye lake, i hope to have better luck then.

I decided against Buckeye last night and hit the licking river. A buddy and I caught 14, all around the 2lb mark.
