Went to the Marais de Cygnes Sunday down south around the wildlife area and had bites all morning. Caught several from 1-2 lbs. Around 1 p.m. before the storm hit, hooked and lost a catfish guesstimated somewhere around the 20 lb mark. Had to seek shelter while the storm went through, but could not get any bites afterward.

Just a quick question. What were you using for bait? I've been using the old night crawlers and liver and done ok. Nothing to write home about but done ok.

I sure think it should be. Kinda still new to the area. Been fishing mostly lakes and ponds here in Linn County Mostly. But spending some time scouting it out. and hope to better results soon. Been having fun, But not found any big ones yet. Ready to go any time Cathunter1978. I'll try to keep you up to date on what I find. Sat. I'm going to a sale south of here were there will be lots of locals that are REALLY into fishing, So I'm going to do some Brain picking while I'm there. Maybe even get more access to the water with any luck.

TAKE 69 SOUTH OUT OF LACYGNE TO 367TH ST. GO WEST (LEFT) THROUGH NEW LANCASTER STAY ON 367TH TILL IT CURVES TO THE SOUTH KEEP GOING 1/4 MILE TILL YOU COME TO A BRIDGE. PARK ON NORTH SIDE. FISH UNDER THE BRIDGE IN FRONT OF THE RAPIDS. I PREFER GOLDFISH FOR THIS SPOT. I HAVE ALWAYS HAD GOOD LUCK HERE. *****BE CAREFUL IF RAIN IS PREDICTED THE HILL TO GET DOWN THERE IS DIRT AND VERY STEEP. AND THAT RIVER WILL RISE FAST.I'VE SEEN IT RISE A COUPLE FEET IN A MATTER OF 30 MINUTES. AND RUNNIN FROM FLOOD WATER UP A MUD MOUNTAIN WITH A BACK FULL OF GEAR AIN'T NO FUN!!***** WATCH YOUR POLES I'VE SACRIFICED ONE TO THE FISHIN GODS DOZIN OFF HERE

Went Saturday afternoon and the river was coming up pretty quick. My buddies who fished there Friday night said it was up 3-4 feet. Made it pretty hard to fish with whole trees coming down the river. Sat in the rain for about three hours and said screw it. Went to Blue Springs Lake Sunday morning after the rain stopped. Caught shad for bait, ended up catching just under 100lbs of channel cats. Four biggest went from 10-12 1/2 lbs. Catching them in the old river channel by Woods Chapel Road.

With all this rain recently, the MDC sure has picked up. Its tapered off fairly quick. I think the blues and flats should still be close to the low water dams in Ottawa and Osawatomie. I think 600 lbs. and I will be checking our usual spots out Thursday morning and afternoon, if anyone cares to join us, just give us a shout on this thread. :0a36:

It's right off 68hwy i think 7th street. turn off 68 like your going to The Orlis Cox baseball complex and follow the road over the dike, past the cemetary and keep going about 1/4 mile until it turns left and your there.

Don't think the low water dam would be a very good place to go for the next few days, saw on the news this morning some fisherman yesterday snagged some human hair and now the police are searching for the missing Olathe girl down there. And there was another drowning at Smithville yesterday. It seems every year there's a couple of drownings at Smithville.

You're talking about the low water dam at Ottawa, right?

As low as the water is now there (they're not letting hardly a drop out of Pomona nor Melvern right now) you could use a minnow seine to fish it. Went over the K68 bridge in Ottawa this afternoon and the river's about as low as I've seen it in a long time.
