Finally got to meet some fellow BOC members today in the marsh. Me and my wife meet up with Duane and Charlie today. We caught a few but Charlie put us all to shame with a 21 plus pounder. It was a very nice cat. Again guys, it was very nice to meet y'all. Here are a couple of pics of todays trip.

I'm homesick and ain't even from there.
I spent the day with a BOC member and a soon to be member. We were swingin' metal detectors on the beach.
It's a good day all around when friends can enjoy each other.

Thanks for the invite Charlie, but I do not think I will be able to get away from work. I hope you guys do well, I have some friends that have been doing very well at Rollover. Joe I wish I could set us up a trip but I do not know where I will be working from day to day. It has been crazy. I never know when I will be off on the week-end. I wish they would hurry and fix our base in Intracostal so we can go back home. Duane you sure got Charlie hooked on cattin. Again it was nice to finally meet and fish with you guys. Good luck on y'all next trip.

Randall, I think about fishing there in La alot this time of year. I'd love to spend a good day on the water with you. I'll try to make it happen some day.
Don't know Charlie, but I always thought it'd be a real hoot to meet up with Duane, and I'm thinking Charlie would be as much fun.
We didn't find much, just some old crusty modern coins and the usual junk, but it was a beautiful day. The ocean was calm and the temp in the mid 70's

South Louisiana has some of my favorite people there. You folks stay alive long enough and we'll all fish together, that's a promise.
Charlie, I can get hold of some bilge pumps that put out 2200 gal's per hr. They take an 1 1/8 discharge hose. That should keep you floating, and their 12V too.
Duane
03-15-2006, 09:55 PM
Bobpaul I just converted him to a catfisherman from a Bass fisherman you gonna ruin him .Down here if they see me and Charlie fishing in a nicer boat people will be following us all day .signing autographs and women all waiting for us at the landing .Look at Randall nice boat good clothes works hard fishes with his wife respects other boaters .He is getting toooo good of a reputation between his redfish exploits and his catfish techniques in the bay he becoming quiet popular I can see the poparizzi following him soon .Me and Charlie have to stay out of the cameras eye .James Bond type of Catfishing .One day Charlie and I gonna show up at one of those catfish tournaments they have and these two old cajuns gonna show them boys how catfishin is done jon boat style ! You get that man to fixin up that boat and he will start to reverting to using depth finders again forgetting how to read water .Pulling out his bass tackle and thinking about his old ways Please The Thought Alone I Cant Stand To Bear
Bobpaul
03-16-2006, 05:01 AM
Sorry Duane, I don't know what came over me. It must be from building these million dollar yachts. Them people have so much money that we put 3 of those big bilge pumps in these boats. One in the front, middle, and back. It's like they ain't sure where it's gonna spring a leak.
Keep the pee-cans handy and keep bailing. ;)

Man the trash talk is getting deep lol:rolleyes: . Bob that would be great if we could all get together and do some fishing. I use to fish mostly by myself but lately my wife comes with me more and more and has even learned to cast a bait cast reel. She throws her own cast net also. My youngest daughter is in High School now and spends more and more time with her friends and my wife is having more time to spend time with me :crying: lol. Its all good though lol. Duane and Charlie, good luck to you guys if y'all make a trip. I do not know if I will be working this week-end yet so I do not know if I will be going or not.

That's good your wife can spend more time fishing with you, Randall, but don't let them girls spend too much time away from the water.
I heard from our friend April this past weekend. It was the first time since before her wedding this past November. Only reason I caught her on the net was that she was home sick.
When I mentioned the Chicot gathering, she said, "Oh #%$T" I forgot all about it, but was relieved when I said it was cancelled due to Katrina folks still living there. That's been one busy lady since she started teaching school.
I don't know if you've heard from her, but she did say she missed you all and wanted to get in touch for a fishing trip. She did bust her first deer this past hunting season.
I keep in touch with south Louisiana each day by tuning in KBON 101.1 on the net. It might be out of reach for your radio. That's the local Cajun station around Ville Platte area.

Wow KBON, I listen to it all the time.It is in Duson La. I think. Man I sure do miss talking to April. Have not talked to her since she got married. If you talk to her tell her I miss her. You are right about keeping the girls on the water. I love when they want to go fishing. In fact we were planning on a trip this week-end but it looks like the weather will not be good. Pretty heavy rain chances. I will have my oldest Grandaughter this week-end and would love to be able to take her fishin. Talk to you later.

bobpaul, i was stationed at camp lejunne for awhile in the mid 70s. very nice state and the people were alot like around here, we were treated as guests where ever we went. i didnt do any fishing while i was there but did get out and squirrel hunted once. you could visit the beach and mountains in the same day. i will have to make a trip back there one day to onslows beach to collect some more shark teeth from the beach. charlie r

Charlie, we've got a few BOC members at Camp Lejunne, and the Marine airbase near by. Those guys up there should be treated as guests no matter where they are. You missed some great catfishing when you were here.
I'll be going out with a Marine friend I met when he was stationed near Paris Island, SC, in the near future. I'll post some pics of the fish we catch, and we will catch some fish.
That fish in my pic was caught in the Cape Fear River. The Bluecats bite good from now on into May. I just got to get there.

Me and the wife stayed home today too. We had the Grandaughter and wanted to take her fishin but it was just too darn windy. Will try and take her soon. I hope you have a great time on your upcoming trip to the Red. Say hi to Sgt. Rob for me.

Sounds like you guys are having fun out there on the marshes. I bet that is some beautiful scenery!!
Denny and I have been doing fairly well on the Miss River as of late. I have a feeling that the bite will turn off soon. The reason I say that is the last bunch we filleted even the little ones had fat which we usually only find on the 5 lbers and above. Makes me think they are fattening up to lay eggs.

Hey Charlie, I am actually a die hard Triline XL string user. I change my string often and buy the 3000 yard spools which last me a while. Last Fall I ran out of Triline and always wanted to try Cajun Red. I bought a 600 yard spool and have to admit it is a pretty goog string. It is very easy to see, strong, but it is a little stiff. Triline seems to be a bit more limber but harder to see when you have multible lines out. I still have a little Cajun Red left and will continue to use it till I run out. I have since purchased me a new 3000 yard spool of Triline 20 pound test that I will be using soon. Out of all the different strings that I have used over the years the Triline XL is my favorite. The new spool I just purchased says it is new and improved, I will have to put it to the test lol.

can you park at the launch in delcambre near the bridge? last time i was there,(apx 2 years ago)had to park my trailer a block or so from the ramp, near the police station. waiting to see if duane can make it sunday, he likes launching out of don's landing, it dont really matter to me, i like fishing different spots, i think the weather should be right on for sunday, so yea, im, 95 per cent sure about going. so about where, in general (exactly) is your hot spot for the big ones? lol might just see you on the water sunday....i got a cat report out of the avery canal .......seems they turned on last week there. charlie r

be my first time to put in in delcambre. yes it looks like you have to park about a block away. if you take the first canal off the delcambre canal going west then the first canal going south that is the canal i will be fishing in. on the map the first canal going west is bayou tigre the one going south does not have a name.

Randall, and Duane, I think I found that item I was asking about. It's an old "Beaver" brand, made in Germany. It's way cheap, but might be in playable shape to learn on.
I'll probably be looking for another though, so please keep an eye out for a decent one.

went out this saturday, put in 7hrs fishing.....5 little dinks. first i launched in delcombre, the tide was very low and the wind from the north made it even lower...the smaller canals feeding the delcombre were empty, i went down all the way to the ICW and found 8 other boats fishing....no had even a nibble, stayed for an hour then left. went launch in jean marie...again the lowest i ever seen it, got a good story from the old man (70s)who lives at the jean marie launch.... he told me for the hurricane, the helicopters had to come and rescue him and his wife out of a tree, he had planted 12 years before....his story almost made this hardcore calloused person sniffle. i went out to the mouth of oaks canal, they had a boat there with a man and his wife, fishing MY spot.....sure enough she landed a big cat(a good 10lber). well thats about it. fixen to have to spend "quality time" with the wife, the rest of the day........charlie r

Thanks for posting that site. Took a little trial and error but I finally figured it out (with my son's help). BTW, it's been years since I went through Delcambre; what is that main channel through town. Bayou? River? Good fishing in that lake it feeds from?

Smitty, seems I know of a Bill Smith that lives in Henderson. Been years since I saw him though. We built a few miles out of town back in 1985 and didn't go to church in Henderson after that. Sort of lost contact.
Captain, I had trouble with the map myself. If you have GPS coordinates, it works real good. Also, I found a lot of areas had to be black and white maps. There are some other map sites but the software is nice. Man that Etouffee Festival sounded good. We used to go to the Crawfish Festival in Breaux Bridge when it was down town. The last couple years we went it was lots of fights, so we quit going. Last time I was in S. LA was in 1999 when we took some friends of ours here on a tour of LA. We made the Rice Festival that year. Jennings? I worked for the state highway dept. in LA in the late 60's coredrilling all around South Louisiana for roadways and bridges. Cold beer and great food. If I have my way in the next year or so I want to move back to LA, preferably somewhere below Alexandria.

on the map program go to the help file. it should tell you how to do anything you want to do. you have to have a active internet connection to download the maps. after you download you dont need a active connection. so what i mean if you have a dial up internet connection you must log on prior to running the map program. use the goto menu pick a populated place like a town close to where you want to go press enter the screen should be a bunch of squares hit the F key and it will load the map. use your arrow keys to go in the direction you want to go and continue to hit the F key when the squares load. a dial up connection is going to be very slow.

Hey Charlie,
Did you see the size of the two fish Robert (BadBob) caught right down the bank from us Saturday morning? I think it was a 23 and a 13 pounder. I wish he'd teach a seminar on catfishing cause he sure knows how to find the big ones consistently.

I'm trying to come up with a game plan for the tourney. I'd like to fish that ox-bow just east of the lock and dam. I'm going to hit it Thrusday and see if the big ones are still biting there. I'm going to chum a spot with crushed shad in a mesh bag like I told you about. You can enter the oxbow below the lock and dam.
Anyways, if you want to partner up for the tournament I'd be glad to join you. I still haven't seen the details for the tourney. Catsmith said it's on the tournament section but all I see there is stuff for florida and alabama. I'm going to hook up with ersel to give him some tomatos. He's catsmith's fishing partner so maybe he can give me some details.

The boat just doesn't seem to want to go. Been back to the shop three times and they still haven't gotten it right. Its still too hard to start and was cutting out real bad today. Just spent $ 2800 for a 1994 rebuilt motor and they can't seem to get it right. Also have a leek in it that I need to find. Not bad enough to stop from going fishing but enough to need to have it taken care of. Hope it won't be too hard to find. When I get it fixed think I will sell it and buy a brand new one. Know anyone that would like an 18' fiber glass with center console and a 70 horse Evin rude.
I am not having any luck at all fishing, been bank fishing three times and in the boat twice and only catch a couple of small ones too small to keep. Anyone need a fishing partner? I am free just about any day now that I am retired. Would like to go out to the marshes or see other spots but will not take my boat out there until it is running right. Another question how much gas dose it take to go out there and back? I have a 12 gallon tank, is that enough?

I take it you are ready to go fishing? We will sure give it a good try. I have not done too good the last couple of times I went fishing but it probably was because you was not with me lol:rolleyes: . We are going to have a good time regardless.

Have the boat dry and ready to pu a patch on the leek tomorrow and hopefully that will be the last thing that I need to do with it to fish. The rebuilt motor I bought from the Sportsman has been back in 4 times and I have not had one good day with it.I think it is working now.
Tell me about the fishing spots you go to. How deep is the water? I have an 18' fiberglass V hull. will I be able to get in? The spots I have looked at going out checking the motor have been very shallow. I have a depth finder but do not know what the least amount of water I should try to navagate.
Looking forward to fishing with you guys, hopefully this comming week, if not then after Easter.
What about the gathering I haven't been seeing much on it lately. Is it still on and has a date been set?
