I went out fishing today after work. I went to Glade Run Lake (Butler County) which is a special regulation Trout Lake where you can fish the whole month of March. I arrived at 4:20PM and fished till 6:30PM. I caught 6 Rainbow Trout, nothing large but they ranged from about 9" to 12" I was just so happy to catch a fish after having cabin fever for so long! It was so cool to reel in a fish again! Bring on spring, I'm ready!:)

Went out again today after work to Glade Run Lake. I fished with my good buddy Billy B. We caught a combined total of 10 Rainbow Trout. We fished from 4:10 PM till 6:30 PM. I'm attaching a photo of two of the trout. Note my vintage Garcia Mitchell 305 Reels from the 1950's

Nice trout!
Your reels are the first thing I did notice on the pic. I used the 305s back in the 50s. I still have some of the full size Mitchels from back then.

Rockjumper - No, Glade Run Lake and Harbor Acre Lake are not the same place. Glade Run Lake is located about 10 miles S. of Butler just off Rt.228. It is also known as Glade Mills. Harbor Acre Lake is about 15 miles N. of Butler east of RT.38, it is also stocked with Trout and open the month of March. I have fished both lakes.

Skammer - Glad you noticed the old Mitchells right away. I've been collecting and using the Mitchells for years. I love old retro fishing tackle and it's always interesting when someone recognizes the reels and tells me a story about using one years ago. The old French Mitchell's were built like tanks. The bail springs tend to wear out over time but are readily available on ebay. I plan on doing all my fishing this year exclusively with the vintage Mitchell's! :)

One of the best baits that are out there for trout is the trout magnet. There is also crappie magnet, this works really good also.

I fished Glade Run Lake on Saturday and kicked butt! Fished from 7:30AM till 11:40AM. I caught 21 Rainbow Trout. Got a few nice ones in the 13" - 14" range. I took photos and will post them but right now I can't find the disc there on. I took the disc out of the camera and can't find it! I must be loosin' it!

Pennsylvaniacatchaser, you did better than I did. I caught one 18"walleye out of the river. What a nice day. The sun in the morning sure felt good. Is glade run the same as harbor acers? I know some people that fish what they call harbor acers and I think it is open all year long. Congrads on your catch, I can smell the fish frying!LOL

That's a great day catching 21 trout. I went out to look at Raccon Creek Lake yesterday, i couldn't fish, but no one was catching anything. One guy said he caught 1 small trout. Everyone seemed to be pretty disappointed.

Rockjumper - I answered your question about Harbor Acre Lake on the 1st page of this thread. Congrats on the 18" Walleye. The river will be messed up now with all the rain we got last night. If your interested in going out to Glade Run Lake for some Trout angling let me know.

We have gotten a ton of rain the last 2 days and things are a mess. The fish commission just stocked Buffalo Ck Sat. which runs through my front yard and is now flooding! I'm sure even the lakes are muddy now! I may have to go rescue Trout when the water goes down.

Rockjumper - Yeah this weather is crazy! I just looked outside and there are snow flakes flying. I'm glad I was able to get out during the nice weather cause I was watching the weather channel this morning and it don't look good for the next 7 days! Yes, the wife and I are Dale Jr. fans! Our daughters have different favorites - Kahne, McMurray, Stewart and 1 Jr. fan. Makes it fun on Sunday aft., LOL!
P.S. On the post concerning the location of Harbor Acre Lake, I mistakingly said it was East of Rt. 38 when it actually is West of Rt. 38. Hope you didn't stare at a map and wonder where the heck is it, LOL.

I talked to a fellow today that was walleye fishing the river and caught a 20 inch smallie. Said he wished he had a scale, he thought it was over five pounds. Going to show me a picture. 7days of cold. The weekend doesn't look bad just dog gone cold. Spring is coming I think!!LOL

Rockjumper - I've always wanted to get a big Smallmouth mounted and the 20 inch mark is the minimum size I have set for myself for getting a mount. If you get a chance to post a photo of the 20 incher I would like to see it! That's one big fish, my personal best on Smallies is 18"

I had about an hour and a half to kill before work on Tuesday so I took a ride to the delayed harvest section of Buffalo Creek (Butler Cty.) I caught 1 real nice Rainbow Trout about 14" on a spinner within five mins. but just from getting my hands wet unhooking and releasing the fish my fingers became numb. It was 32* and breezy. My fingers have been frozen too many times ice fishin' and stuff and they just get numb so easy anymore. I lasted only a half hour and called it quits. It took 15 mins. for my hands to thaw in the car, man thats painful.

I fished the Delayed Harvest on Buffalo Ck. today for an hour before work. I caught 1 Brown trout about 10" on a spinner. Hooked 2 others but lost them. They hit real lightly, the creek is low and the fish are spooky. I'm sure the boy's worked them over on the past weekend. I may hit Glade Run Lake in the morning!

Fished Glade Run Lake yesterday morning with my buddy Ralph. We done real well. I caught 10 Rainbow Trout. Ralph caught 8 Rainbow Trout. The fished ranged in size from 9" to 13". Waxworms, powerbait and spinners were the baits of choice. Beautiful morning with temp. starting out in mid 40's and rising up to near 60*. Finally some spring like weather. I'm attaching 3 photos from the trip.

I fished Glade Run Lake again this morning. Today is the last day you can fish there till the opening day of Trout season on April 15. I done real well. I caught 13 Rainbow Trout - 1 Largemouth Bass - 1 Crappie - and 4 Bluegills. Seven of the Trout were caught on a spinner as well as the Bass and Crappie. The other Trout took powerbait or waxworms. I'm attaching three photos.

Rockjumper - Thank you for the kind words! The Trout were pretty easy to catch, I just found a "hot spot" at Glade Run Lake and the fish were there every time I went! I didn't get to fish over the weekend. I spent all my free time gathering, cutting & stacking firewood for opening day of Trout weekend. Yes, spring is here!!! Yeehawww!!! I gotta catch me a Catfish real soon!
