This fish hit just as I was about to reel in for the night. We were fishing some submerged trees in about 30 foot of water with a good steady current. |

Fishing on a ledge in the middle of the river about 20 foot deep. Bit like a little one
until it got a hold of the hook. This was my first big catfish. |

My friend and I decided to go off the point of an Island in the middle of the Illinois river. There was shallow water on the left side of the boat and the channel was on the right. We figured the would be a better spot than any, so we tried it and it worked out. All 8 fish total about 30 pounds. |

The
fish was just under 8 lbs. (I'm not going to lie). I
selected better than "so-so" for fishing
because I think I got the right bait at the right time.
This
Lake
's known as a beginner lake for Channels and
occasionally will produce a 10+ pounder. I chose to fish
the night before/early morning of Fathers Day and was
blessed with mosquito-less conditions and a cool temp. I
believe the barometer was steady or gradually dropping.
I brought night crawlers and three different types of
dip/stink bait.
Ohio
says you can only have two poles in the water at a time,
so I was switching around a bit. The only things that
produced were the night crawlers with three bullheads (2
babies `3" long and a 14"-er) and the Hoss's
Hawg Bait (which produced my limit on that pond of 6
Channel Cats).
Anyhow, not a BIG fish by most people's standards but
it's the biggest I've gotten... YET!

Hot day
about 96 degrees, shortly after dark was fishing on
bottom with large chunk of cut sucker. 7 acre local pond
mostly used for bass fishing has flat shallow section in
front of bank just inside of deep weed bed caught
several 5lb cats but first for me this big! |

I go
fishing with a buddy all through out the summer. We
spend hours catching bait in local creeks and ponds that
night decide to use a brook trout about 12 inches. The
bait runner went off and the fight was on knew it was a
big one could feel the weight when I set the hook fought
the fish for a brief time and landed it. Took the weight
of the fish but scale only went to 28 pounds and it
bottom out. So we decided to carry the fish out of there
its a treacherous walk to the spot tied it up in a
better accessible location. Went
to the bar to get some food and went back fishing about
three am the bait runner went again
didn't think it was a big one cause the bait was
a small dead creek chub low and behold hooked a thirty
five pounder best night ever had. |
