101+ Lb. Blue catfish entry by radish
IMG_18231 I was fishing alone on Dec. 1 2007, on the MS river using a skipjack for bait when the fish hit. After a long battle I got the fish to the boat.

Realizing how big the fish was and that it was 12 miles to the nearest ramp I decided to call my wife to bring a camera and meet me at a spot on my hunting club that was not far from me. I own certified scales at my business and have certified a world record catfish for the MS Game and Fish Commission. I believe that there was no way that this fish... [Read More]

91 Pound Blue Catfish entry by RIVER-RAT
200904262032_155 Got off work around 3PM and decided since I don't have to be at work on Monday till around 2 in the afternoon, I'd hit the river for a few hours.

Got to the river around 5:30ish and didn't spend much time catching bait, found a few shad and a skipeye and headed to the first hole. The wind was absolutely awful! Horrible, horrible south wind!

Anchored in that first spot for about 35 minutes and was able to get the skunk out of the boat with a 2-3 pound blue...not much of a fish but i... [Read More]

Pirjer16chan Fish Tale of the Catch:
I was in my Kayak fishing the edges of the pond for Bass but had cast a 4 inch live bream out toward the deeper water. I fished the bream about 6 foot deep under a float.
I placed the rod in a rod holder behind me and continued working the shoreline. Suddenly I noticed the Kayak was moving away from the bank. When I turned around and looked at the set rod it had a nice steady bend in it.
I picked the rod up and let the circle hook do its job. After being towed around... [Read More]

14 Lb. Channel Catfish entry by Catmandan123
14lb-channel-MI The forecast was for clear skies so I left my rain gear. It rained. Thankfully my buddy had this spare poncho or it would have been a long night. I caught this 14 lb channel cat after trying several spots with no luck. It hit like a freight train at about the time we were going to give up. It got out in some wicked current and wouldn't give up. I let it loose after the pics. It was the only fish that night.

HPIM0261a Carried a friend to the Mississippi River to try our luck at a few blues. My friend's PB was about 5 lbs previous to this trip.

We moved around quite a bit and had caught several. My friend caught all the fish except for the last one. He was having a blast. He'd caught a 32, 18, 15, 2-10's, and an 8 lber.

All the bites were very aggressive; the fish were really biting good. Most bites were of the rod slamming variety. I saw a rod begin to move and told my friend "here's another one&... [Read More]

blue-catfish-72-lbs-jbridges-a It was a beautiful day for the start of the new year so me and my boy headed down to Wheeler to see what we could get into...

Made two anchors with out a bite but on the third we got on a couple...

The first one a 20 pounder and the second a beautiful 72 pounder....

I guess the third time is the charm...

Moved around after that with no more action...

channel-catfish-13-lbs-AZflats A very slow night of fishing.. I missed two flathead runs and caught 1 stinking turtle...

* This one hit my light line with shad while I was sleeping... I woke up to the sound of the rod bending and the line peeling off...

* It was a great fight... Every time it would get close, it would take off again.

* This is my PB channel cat. 13 pounds

71 pound blue catfish
PB-bluecat Tony(splash) and me headed to the river today. Let me start out by saying we caught around 200 pounds of fish. We caught some that were almost in the teens, some in the teens, some in the twenties, and my new PB. Now it's time for the rest of the story.

As I mentioned above we had been catching fishing all day. We were exhausted and were down to one rod a piece. All of a sudden my rod went down hard. I fought that fish for 15 minutes and I couldn't do nothing with him. I leaned on him with a... [Read More]

80 lb. Blue Catfish entry by pop pop
blue-catfish-80-lbs-pop-pop My buddy Bruce Edmunds and I spent the day drifting on Monticello. We had been on a good fall blue bite and had caught several 20 and 30 lb blues, when this brute slammed the rod! I was so excited as it was a fish of a life time and weighed 80 lbs. We ended the day with over 300 lbs total weight for this day.

catfish Me and some friends go out looking for to find the fall bite. We ended up having the night of a lifetime. Around 3:00 am everybody was tired from wrestling big fish all night and decided to head home. Me and a friend agreed to stay for a few more hours and see if we could find one more monster looking for a late night snack and boy was it worth it.

71pound3 Had a very good day out on the water along with Kyshand. I had a feeling that something good was going to jump off today because the weather was so great and the feeling was just in the air to get into some great action. We arrived at opening and rented a boat (my boat is still in the shop), so I had to result to old school techniques minus the fishfinder. But you know what, I caught the bulk of my big blues with no use of a fish finder at all which is something else I might add. So I just went... [Read More]

hickshh-with-flathead-il2006 I went out about 7:00 AM and tried my usual spots with no bites. I moved to west side of the island and slowly worked my way upriver. Got a few hits and caught a couple small Channel Cats.

Went to the east side of island about halfway down the island about 100 ft out in 16 ft of water. no structure on bottom but I saw a big fish on fishfinder so I dropped anchor and figured I would try one more spot before I called it a day.

I baited up and put the 1st pole out.. I had just got the 2nd po... [Read More]

43 Lb. Flathead catfish entry by Shadguts
HPIM0191-Custom Went out with my father today. Set up on a hole that had been producing good numbers of blues earlier in the month. Tried a few new spots as well. The bite was slow and we'd only caught two 8 lbers. One channel and one blue.

In the afternoon I got what I thought was a bite when one of the rods bobbled just a little then stopped. A few minutes later another tap tap and it stopped. After a few more minutes and another tap tap I decided to go to the back of the boat and see what was going on. I... [Read More]

17-Pound-Channel-Cat I couldn't find anyone to tag along for a night fishing excursion so I set off by myself for a few hours. As always I was targeting Blue Cats. I set up on a very large flat, and was using Asian Carp for bait. I caught several Blue Cats in the 10-20 Pound range.

I hooked into what I thought was yet another Blue, but I was very pleasantly surprised to see I had caught a very nice channel cat, especially for the Mississippi River. I CPR every fish, and being by myself made it very difficult to... [Read More]

Channel Catfish entry by lendog
Channel-catfish-16-lbs-lendog- I took my boat out with a fellow BOC member; channel cats were very active on cut and stink baits.

I was trying to target flatheads when I had a good run on a cut sunny head. Infact when this fish hit I thought for sure it was a flathead.

After getting it to the boat I quickly found out by the looks of it that it was going to be my new personal best Channel catfish at 16.4#

25-lb-Channel-10-4-08 We went to one of our spots on the lake to set up. Did not think that we were going to fish long due to the wind blowing so much; it was a mess on the lake that night.

About 7 p.m. we were set up and had all the poles out. Did not have a single bite until around 8:15 or so. I did get one channel to the boat around 8:30 - a nice little 4 lber. At the time I had 3 poles out with perch on them and not as much as a bite.

Then we remembered that we had some frozen shad from 2 months back. I d... [Read More]

channel-cat Caught this Channel Catfish today on the Chattahoochee River fishing with cut Skipjack. The day had been very productive and I had already boated my largest Georgia Blue cat (18 pound). The hole I was fishing was typical; about 25 feet deep with a log Jam in the back. I cast this particular pole right up to the bank, just in front of the Jam. He hit the pole harder than the 18 pound blue that I caught earlier and I knew he was hooked.
